Hi - Not sure what this is called but a very experienced English Budgie breeder has just had 3 budgies who have "gone thin". When you hold them you can feel their chest bones. Can anyone please advise what this is, what causes it and how it is treated. Her budgies died last week even though they were eating and looked fine. Many thanks for your help.

It's called going light, and probably caused by megabateria, megabacteria is a secondary infection, so the birds would have something else going on also.

they look like they are eating but more likely just grinding the seed.

Hi Thanks - that was the other term - going light. What can be done to help/fix this please? Does charcoal help?

NO

Go to an avian vet. Get him tested. Megabacteria is serious and generic remedies wont help in this case if its mega.

VET is the answer you need in this case.
