For those that knew Ross he passed away suddenly on 29/3/2011.

Ross was a very successful breeder at the National level with quite a few varieties, this sale is a great opportunity to tap into a successful line of birds

I would think there will be a wide range of birds to select from & if your lucky

enough to buy,the right pairs, should be able to breed yourself, some good show Budgies.

PS Ross will be sadly miss, by all that knew him.

The catalogue is now on the website http://www.bcv.asn.au/Auction.htm .

If you are looking for quality birds there are plenty on offer, especially Lacewings, Clearwings, Lutinos and Cinnamons.

The auction is on the 8th of May.

Cheers

Did anyone manage to get along to this auction? Just wondering what the prices were like, especially the Lacewings.

I think the Lacewings, were the hottest contested of the breeds,

By that, there was the one buyer, would just wait will the bidding,

slowed & then he would, jump up in hundreds. He was there to buy them.

All you need is a 'name' and your crappiest culls will fetch hundreds because they are 'XXX stock'. Same culls you and I would sell for $20-50...

If anybody thought the birds were **** then apart from being extremely disrespectful, I would have thought that they wouldn't know a budgie from a rabbit! I bet they (the critics) haven't won 6 classes at the Nationals or achieved even a fraction of what Ross has! You would not have found a better offering of lacewings, cleawings, greywings or lutinos. The cinnamons were very strong (I purchased 2) and there were some quality greens. A lot of Victoria's top breeders were there bidding and buying, not to mention the interstate visitors.

Only 9 of Ross's birds were kept back to show on his behalf at the Young Bird Shield and these will sell at our (Melton) auction.

An average of $308, a gross of over $70k and a top of $3100 pretty much says it all doesn't it?

It's almost "Un-Australian" to say anything against the forum Matt. Some members seem to be able to say what they like and others dont!!!!

Amazes me that a members actual request to remove her post has resulted in a "discussion" on forum moderation actions

I just got home from visiting some friends and they went to the auction, they told me that the birds were outstanding, never seen birds so good from one breeder.

They said they couldn't believe it that bidding starting at $500. with lacewings, they said every top breeder in Vic was there buying so that says a lot.

They bought a couple of lutinos but the one he wanted went for over a thousand.

So it sounded like it was a top auction.

Oh my friends had a great day out they said very enjoyable. I wished that I didn't have to work because I would of went to, but wouldn't of enough money to buy what I wanted.

wish there were sales like that over here would be cool to even just see what was on offer and watch the high rollers battle it out.

My frinds told me that there was a bloke from Tasmania there buying for others from Tasmania and he was buying up big, he was getting a headache trying to keep track of everyones orders and how they had spent and how much they had left.

They said that there were that many people there and that had bought that the line to pick the birds up was huge.

So maybe Kochy you can come over and buy from one one day too.

That is true Splatt, there was a consortium from Tassie & they brought

a line of good budgies,to take back to Tassie. It will interesting,

to see the Tassie National Team next year,to see how they went with

there breeding.

Those lacewings must of been great quality. I'm happy for his family that the birds made good money.

People in the know would not fork out big dollars for birds unless they where exceptional.

The prices they sold for speak for them selfs.
