Somethings Wrong

Hi, my budgie Fly is acting very weird. She doesn't stop moving her feet, as if she is stomping on something all the time and her cere is nearly twice as big as her beak. Is it normally to have an unusually large cere? Also her feet seem all scaly and rashy like sand paper and a bit of it seems to be peeling off. She is currently with four other budgies but they seem fine while she is quiet and always sits by herself. Her mate some how got out of the aviary and she has been quiet since then but I don't think that would be the reason for her feet. Should I seperate her from the rest of the budgies? Please help

Thats how big her cere is. Is that normal?

Definitely scaly mite affecting the cere and the feet/legs. She is moving constantly because of the pain and irritation/swelling from the mites attacking her. You need to purchase some ivermectin and place one drop on the SKIN of the back of the neck. You can also treat her feet and cere by coating them daily in either vaseline or paraffin oil, i prefer paraffin oil for no particular reason - just do. Either works, but it is the ivermectin that will actually kill the mites and it will work fast. Go get it from your nearest vet.

Get the ivermectin ASAP!!! The mites will eventually get worse and if you take too long to kill them, the damage to your bird will result in death, even after the mites are killed.

Cooking oil will do the trick. It is cheap and readily available in the home. It works by suffocating the mites.

but why doesn't any of my other budgies have scaly face mites?

Georgie,

They will get it if you don't keep control of it.

okay so I have Fly in her own cage but i couldn't find ivermectin so I got something called scaly face or leg treatment where I put it it on her legs and cere where it is effected. Do I still need to use the vasaline or paraffin oil?
