However, it seems to have good moments and bad moments. This was a good moment, where it doesn't look as deformed as usual. You can also tell that it doesn't like being moved around by me Link to comment

I'll cross my fingers....it may just be slow developing muscle in that area and the problem may rectify itself. If not, then a pet it will be Link to comment

My mum is more than happy to accept this chick into the house as a loving pet She can't help herself as soon as she see's them. Me and her are so alike lol Today, I moved all the pairs into my new cabinet as well as add another one. So now I have more room to move and more breeding cages available. I'm starting to plan pairs for June, I'm thinking long and hard about them. I was a bit worried because it involved moving the two pairs with chicks. But they found the nest box hole and settled in quicker than I thought so all is well in the Pink Budgie Nest I got a bit discouraged today after discussing the chicks with my mum. I went through my files and found that my success rate for chicks is quite low so far. If the two (good) chicks I have right now live to adult hood, then my success rate is this: 5 chicks alive and grown 4 chicks dead 1 deformed But, I'm not letting it get to me as I'm only up to my third clutch. Plus its all a learning experience so I'm technically not losing much. Still...for a first time breeder it is a little bit disappointing. Link to comment

Was walking around calling for food from mum. The thing is he was following her. He was coping fine on the cage floor. He wasn't pushing himself along like in the video above. He just walked like a normal bird, though you can still tell which leg is the bad one, its no where near as sever as it was. The other chick I got from the spangle parents is looking lovely. I'm not sure if its a spangle though. In fact I'm quite confused on its variety XD It might turn out to be something simple that I should of been able to tell, but I'll post some pictures later when lighting in the aviary is better. They coped well moving into the new cabinets. And I even paired up some others that were in condition that I've been watching for a while. I paired a : Cobalt cock (opaline?) x and a Cobalt opaline hen YF dom pied cock (Pie) x Normal Grey hen. <-- This is the hen that has been really stubborn and not produced anything despite being in condition. I've been giving her different males to try and so far squat. So I've paired her with the father of my first chicks, hoping that some experience in the cage will go well. Sky Greywing cock x Light Green (cinnamon?) hen <--Her cinnamon is really dark so I'm not sure if she is one or not. She has so far kicked every bit of wood shavings out of the nest box onto the cage floor, and they already look bonded Once these pairs start to produce (if they do) then I will start a new topic Link to comment

That sound like a good plan. And it looks like there is some hope for the chick with the bad leg! Link to comment

They can sometimes have two "knee" joints and sometimes they actually have a section of bone missing in the leg. Photos of what I was talking about.....not necessarily related to your bird but I thought you may want to see it I euthanase these chicks. Edited June 11, 2011 by **KAZ** Link to comment

It just points the wrong way. Link to comment

Mum has been pecking her off the perch and I don't want a repeat of last time. Sidewinder (what I've named the chick with the funny leg) has been kicked out of the nest. When I tried to put him back in mum kind of pushed him out. He was a slow grower so I guess mum thought it was enough. But he's doing well on the floor, he gets around okay. I've just been a bit worried as when I pick him up he feels really light, and I can feel his keel bone. I got some hand rearing formula and fed him some off a spoon. He ate a bit but stopped sooner than I would of liked. Next thing on my list is a crop needle. Pancake is doing well. I thought his variety was a mystery but it no longer is. He's a lovely little green cinnamon spangle. He falls out of the nest but has not yet been kicked out by mum. Link to comment
