hello

well i umed n rrrrrrrrrrrrrr red and decided that all my birds are in breeding condition and some these birds ive missed a few times so rather than miss my chance again i decided to fix breeding boxed so that i can breed my birds and they are free from stuffy hot box so no more fryed eggs and hot panting mum n chicks

i simply cut mouse wire out to size of my breeding boxes doors

and i nailed it to bottom of each nest box and put a nail on top so i can slide it over the nail keeping bird and chicks inside and with all the air they could want the doors a cut in half so i can allow sitting hen privacy until eggs hatched its on out side of door and door slides in like normal if cooler and every night to stop night chill

i did a simmular thing two years back with copper meshing but i cut doors n had two doors per box this is simpler and so quick but does same thing no cutting or attaching to door just tack it on the bottom pull up and on to roof and clip on with the small nail on roof

ill get a picture tommorow for you all :}

I do something similar using old aviary mesh as replacement nestbox sliding doors during the day but replace the other nestbox doors for the night time.

not sure on the placement of the wire - on the side of the box or the top??

just getting ideas,

wish could breed mine now, the boys are flirting all the time with anything that move (and some things that don't) and the hens look good with new feathers in and some of them are accepting the males courting.

They think it is time but the heat in the middle of the day is still a bit too strong.

this is why i decided to do this so i could breed and they could breath

i put my meash on the door end of the box i tacked it underneath and brought it up in over the door to where a little tack is placed i then just pop the tack into the meashings hole and it stays their secure with or with out door in

Depends on the design of your nestbox. If you cut a section that replicates the nestbox door and use it in the same way should work.

I have done something similar, I cut up an old cage to fit in my sliding part. It is exactly the same size as the sliding door, I just swap them over, works great.

I would not leave it more than 24 hours, GB. Go for it after 12 hours, if you are worried.

Looking forward to the photos of how you have fixed the wire for the door. It is such a good idea.

How is the chick Gb? did you foster it or is it still there, What I do when I am worried a hen want feed, is put an older chick in the nest to get her going (they chirp louder) but you need older chicks to do that.
