Which brings up the question: How far away would your grandchildren be?

They would be an extra hour and a half away than they are now

For most of the time my children were growing up, my in-laws lived 2.5 hours away. But Dad was an over the road trucker, and that distance meant nothing to him. They would often call on a Saturday morning and ask if they could come out for the day. It was sad not to be able to just run out to visit them for shopping or dinner, but the distance was close enough that my children grew up with many memories of times with Grandma and Grandpa. Including birthdays and major holidays. It just depends on how much you are willing to make the drive. :)

just means sleep overs for few days

:}

Positives and negatives which ever way u look at it. Away from kids, grandkids, place to pick up glass, and Freemantle Dockers home games. A great house and a relaxed lifestyle.

If you could just pick up and move house from city to country living, would you do it ?

We have the opportunity to move to a very special house in the country, about 2 and a half hours from where we live.

It would mean a quieter kind of life, and my husband could likely give up work.

I would have to rebuild aviaries etc on a smaller scale than I have now.

We wouldnt have more room on the block but we would have a bigger house with more character. 13 ft ceilings, ornate plaster work and cornices, polished floorboards, 7 bedrooms, three sitting rooms, old fireplaces in 5 rooms, newish upgraded kitchen, ex Franciscan friars residence, built in the 1920's. May be heritage listed in future.

I am so into this house.

What do you think ??

Ken would look good in one of those robes :( maybe with a light globe sticking out of his mouth.

My gay uncle was a franciscan friar in his early years and wore those robes. He tells me they make great wall decorations pinned up and spread out.

Looks like a beautiful old house. Good luck on decision making... I'm sure you'll come up with the right answer.

Its been a struggle as Ken has changed his mind back and forth every day since I posted this. We went for another visit on Saturday and the famous Cec Gearing came in his capacity as a builder to check it out for us

Ken seems to have decided today to try for the house. We have the go ahead financially.

I have also been told by the local glazier they would be happy for me to do all their leadlight repair work.

Now all we have to do in work out some finer details and put in an offer.

Sticking point is.........if the house takes up too much of the block and its zoned R25 then they only allow building up to 50% of the block.

Some bugs to iron out still re adding garage and aviaries.

Town planner is on holidays

That's a major sticking point!

Maybe when you get answers, it will help Ken feel more definite, one way or the other.

Well having made the move myself more than 10 years ago I can say that it has been the best thing I've ever decided to do BUT

Driving further to budgie shows, airport, dog trials etc etc has been a real drag AND I haven't had to pay for car and fuel for the last 16 years. I can tell you that 400 km round trip is a complete pain. At least it's only around 200km round trip to the SWBC.

And the country lifestyle is one thing but personally I wouldn't move to the town that house is in - but hey that's just me....... I don't do the scar on my shoulder where they have to cut the second head off nor am I too keen on dueling banjo's ;)

But then living in Perth has BIG KNOBS on it and anywhere regional would now be my choice any day and the area is growing like buggery!!! So opportunities will only get better for work, services, etc etc.

And THAT HOUSE is magnificent even if it is in two heads town :D

My dad always said when you have a difficult decision to make toss a coin. If you don't like the result then the other choice is the right one!!! I've always interpreted that as make the decision that feels right to both of you but you need to be 100% honest with yourself.

Good luck and it would be seriously awesome to have you as a neighbour!

As far as the two heads goes Nubs...........I grew up in Geraldton and I lived in Tassie for ten years too later in life. I am used to that :D

Meeting with the town planner Monday and real estate agent after that.

Well, knowing Geraldton quite well (and yes it's an interesting place too) and having spent a bit of time in Tassie I reckon they have nothing on this place but there ARE some nice people who live there. You'll make it that bit better anyway, right ;)
