Aviary Vs. Indoor

Recommended Posts

How does the longevity/life span compare between budgies kept in an aviary with outdoor flights and those kept indoors in a large cage with time each day out of the cage? What accounts for any differences?

There are so many variables that any results would not be accurate unless a systematic method could be divised where the only contributable factor was the inddor v outdoor.

Are all the birds on the same diet?

Are they all pet types?

What is the outdoor weather conditions like?

What is the temperature and indoor humidity like?

Are any of the birds breeding?

Do any of the birds have previous exiting family genetic traits that may influence their longevity?

There is so much to consider here that it is impossible to truthfully, well at least scientifically, declare that one or the other environment is better for a budgie.

I agree with Dave

Well, I see your point but I wasn't looking for any scientifically accurate in depth study...just a general idea or opinion

I believe it is all on how they are taken care of you can have an indoor bird with a very terribly dirty cage and an outdoor aviary and very clean and well managed or you can have an out of control outdoor aviary with breeding going on and fights and an very nice clean indoor cage.

That is my opinion it depends on the conditions that the bird is in and it comes down to genetics too and if the bird is of a healthy stock.

I say this as Pretty passed away within 2 years of me having him and Merlin is not going on his 3rd year at my house and is healthy and they were living in the same cage indoors.

I hope that helps, it really goes on the same basis of what Dave was saying.

Noone has any idea as there has been no studies done that I know of.

How can you expect anyone to have this answer for you ?? It would have to come from someone who has documented the results and kept both outside aviary birds and indoor pet birds who get time out ?? If you wanted a different answer perhaps you need to reword your first question ??:P
