In this case Kaz has taken the picture to show us all the colour that the bird will be. Note the blue feathers coming through on this bird.

Tail feathers can also tell you if the bird will be a spangle. If the two middle feathers on the tail are light in colour, not dark, then the bird will be a spangle.

For the picture above, we know it is not a spangle, but we can see the blue feathers very clearly.

This pair, as it turns out have no chicks of their own. They are raising three fosters it seems. Eldest chick is from a frozen cold egg from the grey spangle cock and his skyblue hen. Second chick looks like it may have been one fostered from my dilute dom pied hen and her greywing cock ( maybe ) and the third chick in their nest is the chick that hatched from a smashed egg ( the miracle chick ) and has been fostered to them because the original parents were raising one only chick.

you are breeding some top hens at the moment. All bodes well for the future.

95% of the last batch of babies were cocks, but now we are seeing hens coming through in the nests. Very good

That's okay, I can wait till tommorrow. Aww cute, I only just noticed that :D
PAIR FIVEyf skyblue cock to cinnamon grey opaline henFirst chick hatched today and is cinnamon. There are foster eggs in that nest too though so will have to wait and see if its their chick or not once it feathers up.034-17.jpg
If its the same chick, that would make it 16 days old :)

That pair had six eggs but the hen just sat and looked at them. I transferred some eggs to another nestbox and got one chick out of it
