It's a shame about the YF chick. Was it the glass sliding door from your older post? Who would have thought a budgie could push that hard to open it.

No...it was the sliding door on the nestbox

Oh. Can you put a clip or something on it?

I might have to. The new nestboxes I just had made have lighter weight doors. ( Not my choice ) If a budgie wants to play around with them they can lift them up.

Oh dear. Well now you know, you can prevent it from happening in the other ones.

 Remember my crazy sky blue hen, the one that attacks. Well has started again ;) .

It's funny you know, She will lay the eggs, hatch them raise them up until the oldest is about 2 1/2 weeks and she will be as pleasant as moving out of the way when I check the nest ect but once they get to taht age back, her instinct goes in protection mode and bang Attack attack attack!!!!.

But I am not copmplaining as she is a great mother her her chicks are well fed and big babies. Oh yeah once the chicks get to 5 weeks she stops her attacking, Lets me do what I want .....strange.

I put some babies from the kindie cage out into the aviary today as well. Weather has been great and they were doing so well, so they were ready.

Yeah............looks like the cock was hiding cinnamon :)

Does that interfere with any of your plans? I know a lot of times I've read that some of you don't like cinnamon turning up where it doesn't belong.

I just realized that a cinnamon chick from this pairing will have to be a cinnamon and greywing. You probably don't remember when I asked a long time ago if this was a possible combination, and what would it look like. Well, now we will find out!

Cinnamon and greywing ? NO. The cock is dilute. The hen is greywing. The chick isnt greywing at all based on what I can see. Anything else we will have to wait and see.

I did this pairing aiming for dilutes.

Sorry, I meant 'greywing' in the loosest sense of the term, not differentiating between greywing, clearwing and dilute.

So, all these chicks will be either greywing/dilute or dilute/dilute, to be more specific. Did I get that right? And then if there is cinnamon thrown on top of it all, that is a separate gene. So I will still be interested to see what this chick ends up looking like. :(

Is this the plum-eyed chick we were talking about before? I've been waiting to see a photo of her out of the nest.

Shifted some chicks and eggs around today.

Put the spangle greywing chicks into the kindie cage as the parents were getting a little peeved with them flapping about in there. Mum has gone back to the nestbox.

A pretty budgie Dave. Started out pretty small and runty, but has features and is gaining some size now flying about in the aviary :)

The mother kept breaking back into the birdroom from the flights, repeatedly by shimmying under the gap at the bottom of the door so after several attempts to break back in, I gave her a dom pied cock I have never used to pair up with.

Have a few chicks in nestboxes, out of nestboxes, in kindie cage, out in the aviary and new ones hatching every day as well.

Have had a few issues as a lot are first time Mums.

Two in a nest have all their down plucked off.

I euthanased a chick with severe leg issues

Had two eggs in one nest each with twins in that died at a later stage.

Egg #1

Egg #2
