i have bought my first budgie about 6 weeks ago,i have tried to do everything right, large cage, talking to him a lot, i think he is male ,he sings and seems happy, but he is not interested in toys,is very inactive,is not curios about anything.he is not interested in fruit,a swing,a bath. he jumps on the finger, but does not stay.

i have seen other budgies, and their behavior is very different.

i agree with catherine.

i had a little girl budgie at first by herself, she was quite

and rarely sang and just sat on the perch alot, not really inquisitive or curious

but then i got her a friend and she started to be more lively and chirpy

and now she does all sorts of acrobatics around the cage, and they follow each other everywhere.

just a word of warning if you get a second they are less likely to attach themselves to you as they have each other

but they still like you.

when i got my 2nd they still hopped on my finger but preferd to stay in their cage with one another.

good luck, and enjoy your budgie! :(

Ps; pepi is very cute.

Thats definately a boy you got there

He's very pretty.

My little boy has livened up with a friend as well. He sings more and moves around the cage, following whatever she does.

Looks a bit girly from where I sit, might explain why it's less active and less chirpy

the cere is light purple and smooth.i think he is still young, he lost a lot of white fluffy feathers

and is growing yellow ones.

i wanted a budgie that i could train and take outside the cage ,but i want him to be happy,so i will get him a friend. thank you all for your replies.

Looks to be an opaline recessive pied. Orange beak, no iris rings (he is young mind you). What colour are his eyes? I was going to ask about the cere as well as it almost looks hennish there, but then when you consider recessive pied + camera lighting, I figured it would be pale pinky purple not white, plus it is far too smooth for a hens cere.

Please don't. YOu haven't even had him a month, yet. He's still getting used to you, and now you've added another bird that is a stranger to him. And, to top it all off, the stranger is in HIS territory........at least that's the way a budgie sees it. Look at it his way. Less than a month ago he was brought to a strange place, with a person that he doesn't know, put in a strange cage, and now another budgie has been put in the cage with him.

This little guy is confused. You know how you feel toward him (positive, I hope), but he doesn't. For all he knows you may be planning to eat him. Get the picture here?

Give the little guy some patience and...........some love! He needs it. He has no idea what is going to happen to him in the next 5 minutes, even. Give him time.
