Are you sure it's pregnant? If so, the rump should be swollen. In the nest box wood shavings, other members might be able to tell you the right sort. I use oats and they work well. Is everything set up for breeding? Does she have a mate that she's bonded to? If she isn't bonded, then you might not get fertile eggs. Not every egg will hatch probably. Good luck!

PS: With my chicks I just give them extra vegies and greens. You don't need to feed them, the parents will, unless something goes wrong.

Birds do not get pregnant.

What makes you think this is so ?

How old are your birds ?

A lot of people think that seeing mating means a preganancy. BUT bird do not have pregnancies nor does mating mean eggs and babies.

Without knowing ages of the birds it would be irresponsible for anyone to advise adding a nestbox or encouraging breeding.

Please tell us more.

Hi leish, I see you've just joined, welcome to the bbc.

Firstly has your bird laid eggs yet?

Do you have a pair caged to breed, an aviary etc?

After you answer with a bit more information, when eggs laid (date) what your set up is and a picture if you can everyone will be able to give you better advice.

If its pregnant then id get it to some scientist as they will need to check it out , you will have the first bird ever to be pregnant !!

Maybe its an internal layer with a womb .

well i also have a 9 month old budgie that is now pregnant i feel real bad because i forgot to seperate them i hope nothing bad happens to her i hope shes alright im so dumb

just in future you know so you are wiser

if shes 9 months you should be lucky

just take her aside and let her lay the egg if you feel she is carrying one

if your afraid she may have one stuck give a tea spoon full of cod liver or linseed oil to the food dish mix in the bird will eat it the egg should abort itself quiet easily once egg out remove the food dish and wash thurowly then dry and replace with need fresh food no oil added

 

dont give this everyday just for one hole day will be enough egg will come with in 48 hours if not a vet will most probbly be needed or someone who knows what their doing removal of eggs is very bad if you have no clue

Hi, welcome to the forums

 

What makes you think she is "pregnant"? Does she have egg bum? Or did you see her mating? Not all matings end up with eggs - budgies do have recreational sex, so maybe she's just been having a good time

 

As GB said, not dumb, just not informed of the ways of budgie breeding, we all start somewhere and we all make mistakes. That's how we learn. At least your little hen is 9 months and not younger - some babies breed much much earlier and that is no good. Ideally they should be at least a year old to breed - that way they have less issues.

 

In regards to your questions - the parents feed the babies so you will need to supply mum and dad with seed, fresh vegies and some fruit (eg: corn, broccoli, carrot, celery leaves, apple, beetroot, spinach).

 

BUT as you weren't prepared for this breeding, maybe it's a better idea to not let it continue i.e remove nest box and let budgie lay egg off the perch, then discard the egg. Hopefully she will get the idea to stop laying and go back to normal.

 

When you ARE ready to breed properly you will have all the information from this forum to help you

Is it the same hen or do you have two.? As we said , have they laid any eggs yet or do you have them paired up or just all in together with breeding box's in cage or Aviary. If you give us a bit more idea it would be easier for everyone to advise you.
