Pink & Blue Budgie

Pink & White Budgie

Hi,

recently I was visiting my grandmother in Qld and spotted the a couple of budgies in the community aviary. I took a few pictures, as I had never seen one before. I bred budgies when I was a child and hadn't come across a pink budgie before. Now I am trying to find out if it is unusual...and it appears that it is IMPOSSIBLE for a budgie to be pink. If so, how does one explain these two birds. There are at least 7 other birds in the aviary, none of whom are pink, so it isn't food related. I doubt any of the oldies have been slipping the birds some food dye or minerals!

Any thoughts on this one would be greatly appreciated!

I have added pictures above....they aren't great but you get the idea. You can really see the pink in their feathers.

Cheers

There is no such thing as a pink budgie so I understand. It is simply not in their genetics. Maybe the people were sold the birds recently or something?

mmm so seems to be the general consensus, however how do you explain the pictures...and that I saw these little babies. They were young ones, so maybe they will lose their pink as they get older....but that still doesn't explain something that shouldn't exist in their genetics!

what i want to know is why do people keep trying to fool the bird breeders into believing their is pink budgies lol

its not genetically possible

the closest you can come to a pink budgie is the rosy look a albino masking violet gives off

or a albino covered in pvm powder :)

and any real budgie breeder can tell their not budgies but Bourke parrots even if :) :happy-dancing:

Guest cranberry

Can a Pink Bourke breed with a budgie? There are stories of hybrids between Australian parrots. I believe there is a recorded breeding between a budgie and a red rump. The same way blue was introduced into Fischers Lovebirds by hybridising with blue Mask Lovebirds, couldn't pink be introduced to budgies this way?

I can assure you that it is possible to breed a pink budgie:) I know a breeder in Adelaide who has in fact bred one, many years back. He won a prize in a show from it. I am considering breeding one. -_- All I have been told is that they somehow come from a Rainbow budgie, and a proper rainbow one not just different mutations mixed.
