okay so here are some pics and just say what you see then i will explain why

these not mum and dad these foster birds

100_2316.jpg

100_2332.jpg

it is the lacewing on cage floor these birds not related yet same age

100_2385.jpg

100_2387.jpg

i put it in a plastic tub to get a clear picture for you guys

100_2389.jpg

but didnt work well so

100_2391.jpg

100_2393.jpg

100_2396.jpg

100_2403.jpg

100_2399.jpg

i supplemented it yesterday as it was not feed much

100_2397.jpg

100_2392.jpg

100_2331.jpg

okay what do you guys think is it okay or something wrong with it

its 4 weeks old

it was hatched on jan 4th this year

its very light compared to my other chicks and its not got a full crop ever ???

can you see the feathers on its head they part and flop when it puts its blow on

is it me or could something be wrong with this chick

im hopeing its just a good bird and im on my way however im not to sure

100_2391.jpg

I sent these pictures to Ray Welshman, this was hes reply.

/////////////

The picture. of the bird You sent does not look like a MOP as the tail feathers

are in line with the body, when it is a mop they are usually angled out about

30 degrees or more on each side. They just look natural feathers to me, they

appear to have plenty of blood in them I would be more worried about them

being french moulters than anything and I don't even think that is the case.

thankyou very much for taking your own time to help me pji

the bird is still alive however i do still feel something is wrong with it

she has been still eatting formula and doesnt seem interested in eatting seed yet although she has been seen to crack it shes growing into her feathers nicely and is very lively still

does anyone know how i go about intergrading some seed into her diet as im afraid to add seed to the formula as i cant crack it and dont want to feed her un cracked seed

shes been feed on a diet of puraee apples beef baby food for some protin with vegies and formula rearing mix

she nibbles bread and greens and i put her out in aviry almost every day

where she seems quiet contented

her crop seems to be quiet large and low down on this hen and when feeding becomes very big on on side rather than fully so im wondering if its a problem their

i will get pics today my son was nice enough to let me use his camera today so will be doing a bird photo shot later

It's a cutie GB.How's it going? The pics on the benchtop dont look feather duster, just very feathered. More worried it is a weak bird, one that doesnt hold weight well and not a ..(whats the word :D ) I dont know, vibrant/enthusiastic. They just never seem right when in the aviary.Hopefully a good course of feeding sees this bird right.Good luck mate- the rest look like beauties too :P

You beat me

All you can do GB is leave there or put her in cage and feed her or let her feed herself and let nature take it's coarse. mmmmm hard one isn't.

She still looks fairly messy or untidy to me, in the wings etc.

she actually isnt messy feathered thats the thing she looks **** their but she needs a bath

shes actually quiet a bird bar the fat low crop

which seems to put the posture into a flip making her look really bent and bumpy when she sits up though shes perfict crop and all

she doesnt have a cage she just sleeps in my room with two other chicks

the have a washing basket they have a perch in the all just sleep their

they dont try to get out their quiet contented

sometimes i come home their on my bed

but on good days they all in aviary and i just go in and she comes up to me and i feed her

the two othrs feed themselves their just her friends company to try incorage eating

Considering she tries to chew things like the wood, if you sat her in the middle of a large tray of seed, would she try it ?

Hi G.B. I'm with Kaz type of "monkey see monkey do" if she's left with other chicks and sees them eating, and Mum doesn't come for a while, maybe she will give it a go. even overnight, so she can feed with others at early morn' pick?

Also she has the appearance of a dehydrated chick to me....one not getting enough food or rehydration. I would put her in a large plastic tub with nothing but seed all over the floor. She will learn to eat seed within 24 hrs if she is so inclined.

hi guys

well shes in aviary after her first morning feed which is 630 am

then she gets feed every hour so shes not dehidrated or hungry

she sleeps inside in a washing barskit full of seed on floor in hope she will nibble

she only did so once

but never since

she doesnt copy other chicks as id hoped

i dont normally let my chicks in aviary just been putting oldest from all nests in their for the day in hope they show her how to eat

its been a really usless event i must say lol

they all enjoyed playing though so ...

i bathed her today and she looks so much better i tryed to take pics but every time i took one this massive yellow arua surounded her and you cant actually see her looks like shes radioactive lol

so i will try get pics tomorrow see if she stops glowing

i will try not feeding her tonight her last feed was 830 pm shes due now and wanting one so i put her on her seed but she just looking at me like what the h e l l is this

shes proning and chirping starting to get the narky hen aditude also to day

even if i have to feed her for rest of her days shes to personality not to so... im thinking vet tripto see if he can tell me whats up if she makes it to 8 weeks still not eatting seeds shes only 5 weeks so bit more of a chance but will cut feeds back to morning then 10 am then 4 pm then 10 pm then 630 am so on see if that makes her want to crack the seed

i will keep you informed

i had one like this chick that wouldnt eat either and had to crop feed. I kept reducing the amount of feeds down to just twice a day........morning and night feeds. Chick was in with the kindie cage babies. One evening I went to feed it and it had a full crop of seeds :happy-dancing:

Here is my little slow starter......

and now

014-11.jpg

as mine started out like yours..........I have hopes for yours to turn out well. :)

Glad she hung in there. I'm on the same page as your daughter. My silky chick is deformed and we saved a sheep from certain death and it is still here (we raised her), lol.
