Quick smart i called the Vet to see if she could be seen, since I know this is a bad sign for budgies. I got in and I'vejust come back now with Baytrill to give her once a day. Nothing was wrong with the swipes he did (both crop and fecal) but there was a rise in something with a fancy name which isn't good for them (good for us to have but not birds) Poor sweety. But as least I know I got to it early. She is now alone in the spare cage I had, Pie is doing quite well with out her next to him, I think it's becuase he can't see she is in another cage. She has a lamp on her for heat as he suggested and I'm making her some egg and carrot mix as easy food to eat for her. The vet was really nice, told you why he was doing this or that and showed me how to give the meds ( only after checking that it was easy for me to catch her to give it to her.) The fist time he handled her she didn't make a noise but the second time she had a bit of a fuss which I was happy to see, i mean if someone grabed you and shoved something down your thoat to your belly you wouldn't want to get handled again either. I have some meds to give mine too. One of mine was throwing up seeds yesterday. Have you ever seen a bird vomit before? Not a pleasant sight, and somewhat scary too. He hasn't done it again and is acting fine, of which I am glad. Do you remember what your vet thought it might be? Link to comment

Not that it looks at all the same. I don't remember the full term but it's a bacteral infection. Edited April 27, 2005 by nerwen Link to comment

It is not controlled like normal regurgitation. I held him on my finger until he stopped because I didn't know what else to do...you know, like you'd sit with a sick child??...it lasted a good while too. Did Freckle make whimpering noises? Nothing I was really worried she only make that cranky leave me alone sound when he held her the second time. I've checked on her and she is sleeping under the lamp. I didn't want to bother her any more than she was with Pie dancing around her all worried looking so I didn't pick her up untill after she had finished. It was as if she knew I was tying to help since she lept onto my finger and didn't make a fuss when i moved to her the other cage. I was happy to see try to eat some more seeds, I though that had to me a good sign. The seed and water from the other cage have been thrown out and relpaced just in case as well, since the vet wasn't sure how she got sick. Edited April 27, 2005 by nerwen Link to comment

He acted fine before and after (but was being sick for about 20 minutes) and has been fine all day today, but he went to the vet anyway. Of course, he wasn't sick there... Has she perked up any yet? Not a lot yet I think she needs to rest up after that trip. Tell you all now this was the first vet trip ever. (with a bird) And it was a lot of thanks to the info I have picked up on this board that helped me. 20 mins wow that would had me panicked. She only lasted 5 mins maybe at the topsmost. But then she could have been sick before with out me seeing. I've never had to use a lamp on a bird before should it be left on all night as well? Didn't think to ask at the vets, I was just glad she was not as sick as I was imagining. Link to comment

Unless it is one that overheats easily and could cause a fire. Night time is colder than in the day so i guess it would be more important to keep her warm. You don't want her wasting all her energy. I'm glad today that I had a wonderful idea in thinking the very best heat lamp you could ever have is: ****drumroll**** The sun. I took Freckle out and put her dead out in the sun were no shade to get to her for aobut an hour and a half. She picked right up, she wasn't fuffed at all and was dancing all over the cage and she started to sing out to the wild birds that flew over. I took my thermonitor out to see what the temp was and it ended up at 36/37 c which is the the temp the vet said was good for her. I took the others out too and they got the added joy of a shower Link to comment
