Hello - I purchased a new budgie yesterday and named him Leroy (Lee-roy).

I am a little concerned as he is not eating and I realise that this is usual behaviour, but I was wondering how many days usually pass before they start to eat? As he is young I have placed a millet spray on the bottom on the cage and well as some in a seed container right next to his favourite spot (well his only spot he's been in really lol). But he still hasnt had a nibble. I know that he knows that the food is there because he has taken a liking to sitting on top of the seed container (as he can then get a better look at himself in the mirror). He has been tweeting and is in very good health.

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions

I wouldn't worry, they take a lttle bit to settle in and he probably is eating when you are not watching. :)

It is not unusual, in fact I don't think I have ever brought a budgie home and seen it eat straight away. They are a bit too stressed and it takes some time for them to trust their food source. That is why it is a good idea to minimise stressful things around him, then he will settle in faster, that is really all you can do to get him to eat.

Thank you for that. Since writing that post he has eaten!! I was sitting there talking to him and he seemed to get this burst of energy and jumped over to his food and started eating. He seems to be settling in nicely. Thanks everyone for your advice :)
