I tried to breed the cock when he coloured up but I had infertile eggs , Basically he then just saw his days out in the aviary, He did develop cysts around the tail , I just kept cleaning him up .

You can add iodine to the water in the aviary or you can find a multi vitamin with iodine it in it , whatever your preference.

Iodine cannot be stored in the body of a bird , that is why they need small traces for normal body function . Iodine bells help but as you said some may not eat it.

Goodluck with him.

do you think matt that this could of been why my birds were sick i have heared a few clicking sounds from one or two birds and wondered why its like a little clock

i only use bells i was placing rock salt on floor but stopped ????????????

Iwas told to walk around at night in the aviary or birdroom while the birds are perched for the night and if you hear those sounds they need iodine.

Mine would have a panic attack if I did that Kaz, I presume it would be a similar noise to air sac mites? If they are on iodine, logic would say treat for air sac?

Would 7 drops a litre be o.k. each water change? Does it stay stable for a couple of days do you know? Iodine I mean.

Nearly back to normal I'd say, at least in looks.

Hi, I have a bit of a puzzle with this bird.

I bought it in May 09 thought it was a Cock bird. picture 1. (Colours a bit different in this picture) I didn't try to breed this bird this season.

cerewhenbought.jpg

I looked at this bird yesterday and it's Cere has changed. picture 2.

cerenow.jpg

It is being "chatted up" by this violet Cock only bred this season(Aug/Sept.) picture 3

yfspangleandvcock.jpg

Can anyone say which sex the Spangle is?Because I can't decide.

I didn't try breeding this bird and it didn't really show any interest one way or the other in Aviary. But Cere was always blue until now.

Look at me now.

Wow, what a difference. He looks really good.

Thank's G.B., from look of other eggs I think there's a few more to come, here's hoping. I've got 24 eggs in 3 nests, 3 due to-morrow, one from each nest, 3 other pairs thinking about it. :D

Excellent thread Robyn! Great to see the before/after and chickie results and if I see this in my aviary I will know what to try.

Hi robyn I'm new at budgie breeding and i don't know a lot, but i do know that budgies ceres can change A LOT when they are young so until they are older it can be very hard to tell if they are a male or female. Me and my sister have a budgie that is about 2 years old and until only about a month ago we thought that it was a boy, however it had a greyish blue cere so it was hard to be sure. But about half a month to a month ago it had it's very first clutch of eggs which proved us very wrong!!! And the father of the clutch was believed to be a female until we witnessed it mating with the mother of the clutch!

Anyway i hope you find out for sure what sex it is. Good luck! :P

Hi Megan, thanks for your reply. We knew Aquarius was a cock but his cere went brown. Matt(on forum) had seen this problem. It was hormonal problems. He advised the use of soluble iodine to try to fix it. It worked a treat. BUT Matt's bird was sterile so that was why I was so anxious to see if my fellow was okay. Well 2 chick's now and 8 more eggs I think we can say 100% success!! :PTook this picture to-day, when enlarged eyes look dark. but could new chick's down be opaline or not? Thought I'd have a stab at it.It looks whiter than first chick. No matter if it's not, can't believe the size difference in 2 day's.Picture002.jpg Edited by KAZ
