Budgies And Air Conditioners

Recommended Posts

We are trying to buy a townhouse (identical to ours) except the spot where we would probably put the budgies has an air conditioner immediately above it.

It is a very big living/dining room area with just the one air conditioner. So when we do use it (would probably not be often) where would be the best spot for them? The whole room will feel it when it's on... so are they better off as far away from it as possible, or are they okay directly under the actual aircon unit? I'm assuming we should avoid them being in the draught of it (ie next to or opposite the unit)

We may not get it anyway but fingers crossed!

Air con units when they are on tend to push out air. I would have thought that so long as your birds are not directly exposed to this draft they will be okay. :)

Cold air has a tendency to drop downwards as opposed to warm air which rises......I wouldnt put him under the unit.

I was thinking it would be good to have them near the aircon simply because that area is tiled and the rest is carpeted but I guess we can just put them where we currently have them (further away, but on the carpet with a plastic sheet over it)

I have some of my budgies inside underneath an aircon. I put cardboard on the top with a little verandah overhanging the front & back of the cage. I also make sure the vents aren't pointing down & the "swing" thingy of the aircon swings away from them.

I find this keeps the cold air out of the cages whilst giving my little darlings air conned comfort!

Well... we did get the place!

Double congrats!

I am moving into a new studio apartment next week and was a bit skeptical about whether or not I should keep a budgie there because of the air conditioning. This thread has been really useful so far, I hope more people continue posting their experiences with budgies and air conditioners

Our budgie used to sit on a curtain rod under the air con unit, and attack the little flaps as they swung towards her.

The cold air didn't really worry her that much it was just another thing that moved that she could attack. :budgiedance:
