Hi :raincloud: some of you know I got a microscope for Christmas but it only just arrived yesterday but they sent me the wrong and we are trying to sort it all out BUT in the mean time I have decided to search for microscope images of Mega bacteria, canker, Giardia, Psittacosis, coccidiosis, Streptococcus (Enterococcus faecalis) which is the most common bacteria associated with yellow belly. Enteritis and any bacteria related images.

So if any one out their has any images or knows of a site on the internet that I can access I would be most grateful.

Hey Splat how are you getting on with this? Dr Rob marshals book is also very very good, regardless of price it us well worth it! Also I am not sure but I can send you some notes from my microbiology course on staining slides etc if you are interested! I have had a few crop flushes under the microscope now and was totally blown away by some if the stuff that us found under the microscope! If you would like anything I have text books coming out the wazoo on microorganisms, pH tolerances, etc etc!

Hi pip, I haven't really bothered with it lately, any notes you can send me would be great, I couldn't work out how to do the strain one or I think from memory I couldn't get the stuff to do it.

Every time I checked the birds poops all I ever found was megabacteria, never seemed to be able to find cocci. Maybe the birds didn't have it.

But if you have some good notes or directions I would be very happy to read them.

Cheers

Hey splat if you pm me your email address I'll email through my 1st and 2nd years notes on using the microscope and various staining methods. There is a trick to staining ;-) also what dyes are you using! Looking at poop under the microscope requires a good eye, if you found the mega your eye is obviously quiet good :-) cocci are not as easy to find! I had to grow my cultures to be able to get a good look at them!

My daughter studied in microbiology and worked on vaccines at GlaxoSmithKline. I know the method of preparation of slides is quite complex.

There are some online guides on how to prepare slides. There are kits also for doing tests on fecal matter where they do fecal flotation. I think they sell kits for lizards online. Look for fecal flotation methods. I found some interesting and complete guides online for doing this. I would link something but I don't think we are allowed. Also some nice photographs of what you are looking for are online.
