Swing Bell Removal Game

Recommended Posts

 Kramer, our violet Budgie, has this thing about a certain plastic bell on the swing that he uses. It is the green one on the bottom. He has spent the better part of 3 days trying to figure out how to remove it. Well today, he was successful. I heard this noise, and turned and found out he had taken off the green bell. I proceeded to place it back on, he promptly took it back off again. The last time he did it, he took the long way around to the swing, watching to see where I was the whole time, he then proceeded to undo it in about ten seconds flat. As I am typing this, he is eyeing off the green bell again and keeps looking to see if I am watching. He fell off the swing quite a few times trying to undo it and finally has worked out his balancing act.

:P:D Have you got a triumphant photo of him with his bell?

No, by the time we realize it's off, it's been tossed to the floor. As soon as he realizes we have put it back on, he heads straight to the swing, to take it off. I have to wonder if he is attracted to the colour green, we have another toy, and he is always fooling with the green part of it.

What a cute story! Peanut's current favourite is his "olympic rings" toy with the bell at the bottom- every morning as soon as we uncover him he gets out on top of his cage & unhooks it so it falls to the bottom of the cage, then he hops back in & plays with it down there! At first i thought he didn't realise what he was doing, but when i hooked it back up he immediately hopped out & did it again! :)

I wonder if Budgies are automatically attracted to green or just hate the colour green, lol. We had an all green swing in the cage and they totally ignored it, so we switched it with a white one, now they won't stay off it. The Green Bell is the only one they bother to take off of the swing ignoring the other two colours. So I switched the other two with two green ones, Kramer is beside himself he can't decide which bell to remove first, he starts with one, then goes to the next, then the next, and all three stayed on. He finally worked out and took off the bottom one and his mate Hedwig took off one of the side ones, before the swing capsized and they flew to a perch for safety lol. Then Hedwig turned and screeched at the swing rofl. We enjoy the antics, you never know what they will do next, our other budgie Jesse, keeps trying to pick up the bell and take it to the swing and put it back on, but she has not worked out her coordination. Can't wait till tomorrow, I pick up our latest addition, lol the latest description he gave it was fluoro green. No matter what description it is beautiful, oh I also have to pick up two male zebra finches for the daughter, she wants Finches as her main bird of choice. Well better go, the Budgies are making a fuss over something, gots to go sort it out lol. :)

Nothing nicer than watching a budgie at play!

Charley comes to work with me (in cage) and amuses all the people in the office with his antics. He plays games with the guys, if they wiggle the olympic rings from the top of the cage he goes berserk! I dont know if he's telling them off, or if he's enjoying it.

He has a "toy box", a little plastic dish in which I put all his toys, some small budgie toys as well as keys, paperclips, pen tops, key tags, bulldog clips.. anything small. As soon as his toys are all neatly in his 'box' he takes them all out one by one, muttering as he goes .. then when they're out he throws them around, and you see things flying around and crash landing on the floor of the cage or sometimes in his water dish (that's a "goal"!). He then looks at it with one eye... his little head cocked... as he works out how to best fish it out.

We watch him for hours.. very little work gets done in my office.... needless to say I'd better not tell you where it is!! (its to do with "law enforcement"!!! ) :):D

Our hen Jessie, has now found a new thing to do. She has succeeded in completely removing the seed feeder, one slight problem, as she has found out. She had a fast ride down to the bottom of the cage with it. We had heard a crashing commotion in the cage but could not work out what it was. After a careful scan of the cage, we had found out that it was indeed the feeder that she managed to unhook from the cage. We then did an experiment, and found that no matter where we put the thing at, she is trying to remove it. will have to come up with plan B for another feeder, for when Ollie comes out of quarantine and gets moved in with her. On another note, Kramer picks up the bell takes it up to a high perch and lets it fall down to the bottom, if he is trying to impress his mate Hedwig, she doesn't seem to be lol.
