She said that she didn't have any indication of the bird being unwell. She had put in a eucalypt branch with leaves in the cage & the breeder suggested that might be it & that she should have only put seed & water in. She had said she found some branches for perches, I mentioned to be careful some trees are toxic & eucalypt are best as they subsist in the wild with them & I said to clean them before putting them in. She said since the bird has died she found a website that eucalyptus is toxic (not this website). Wahhhh!!!! I don't want to be responsible for the bird's death. The bird is not long out of the nesting box, I'm not sure of the exact age. What would cause a bird to drop dead? Canker? I would be very grateful for any info. If your friend has used other branches, they may have had bacteria or mould on them or been from trees toxic to budgies. It could also be that the bird was sold before it was fully weaned, or sold with a hidden illness. Hard to say really. Except it wasnt the eucalyptus! Link to comment

Would it perhaps not have been eating enough? Some budgies look like they are eating and arent actually or YES not eating enough. ...they take the seed in, play with it a little and it falls out the side of the beak. Babies do that when learning to eat. The dads feed them for a week or more here and there once they have left the nest. That budgie needed its dad to teach it to eat. Link to comment

The budgy was incredibly quick at becoming used to them. It would sit on their shoulder & nuzzle into their neck all in less than a week. I thought it must've just been an incredible bird but perhaps that had to do with it being so young? Link to comment

Yes....it was still at the stage it wanted to feel it was in its nest...the nuzzling is like cozying up in its nest. The budgie was too young to be rehomed or sold. By rights the breeder owes a replacement bird, but preferably one who is old enough to leave home...............I wouldnt trust the breeder to tell a straight story. I would demand a refund. Being kicked out of the nest then sold is too much for a lone baby. Link to comment
