Kind of on topic... what is the, in want to say 'ethical procedure' but that's not the word I'm looking for, for taking photo's at the shows?

do you wait till the birds have been judged or can you take photo's anytime except while they are getting judged?

can you take photo's with a flash or must they be without flash?

and I just remembered Etiquette is the word I believe...

The last show I went to we werent allowed to view the birds until the judging had finished. But at the brisbane show a few weeks back the birds were their to view while the judging was happening.

JB - If you are talking about taking photo's at the Young Bird Shield, i'm not sure there is a protocol to follow for taking photographs at these shows. Very few people take photo's at these shows other than the official photographer for Budgie News Magazine.

My suggestion would be to talk to the Show Manager, to seek his approval. My guess - no photographs until AFTER the national team is selected, No flash and to take the photo well back from the cage.

This show is a selection event for the Nationals a week later, anything that jeopardises a birds placing in the Victorian team would be disastrous.

Are you planning on being at the Young Bird Shield??

At the nationals all photography is fine even when the judging is on. But one rule. NO Flashes.

I'll be taking me new Canon to do the job. I have a 75-300mm zome lense so should get some thing?????

I was considering going to the Shield yeah... but still unsure if I can change plans that I have previously made... we will see. Do you know what time it starts/finishes? I might be able to get there for part of it but not all...

As for photo's, I figured it would be something like that (wait till the end) I will definately check prior to whipping out the camera and clicking away :D

Your a judge arn't you Heathrow? You wouldn't like a camera in your face while your judging a bird? It could be a fantstic shot.

Judging starts at 10am. Class judging normally finished by 11.30 - 12. Once this completed everyone is locked out while selection for the Nationals team takes place. You might what to consider this if coming for a short time.

I hate photos being taken of me at the best of times Jimmy. I not very photogenic.

A few people in our budgie clubs and other places have asked how a budgie is washed for showing ? Just wondering if anyone could share in how that is done ?

Not unless they are outstanding. Currently any mature bird with a Red ring is eligible for the Nationals.
