It is nice to see another good Australian book on the market and written by a good avian vet as well. You will have to give us all an appraisal after you have read it. I generally have brain explosions if I concentrate to hard... lol. That said I still might get it because if I'm going to read a book it might as well be about budgies Link to comment

I would highly recommend the following: The Challenge by Gerald Binks The Budgerigar Book by Dr Rob Marshall. A guide to Colour Mtations & Genetics in Parrots by Dr Terry Martin The Master Breeder by James Bratt. you can go too far wrong with these as your basis. Link to comment

Whats the general consensus good, bad, any other comment? I've got it. It is more focused on bird health than anything else and of course promotes Rob's treatments heavily. There are some minor mix ups due to it being printed in China. It is not as comprehensive as The Challenge but has some interesting info. Link to comment

Not bad and a useful addition to my collection already but I would not rely on this book wholey and soley for my info. I do find that he makes a lot of statements that appear to be based on heresay and not backed up by any science. Like twisted toes being a sign of genetic weakness - SHOW ME THE SCIENCE!!!!!!! Otherwise a reasonable discussion of genetic inheritance apart from clearwings and grey wings suddenly becoming sex-linked recessive...... Link to comment

My thoughts are Good book, with some minor productions issues. It focuses heavily on the health components, understandably given Rob Marshall is an avian vet. I would have like to see more aspects on the breeding of Quality Exhibition Show Budgerigars from a practical point of view, seems to be very theory based. I liked the chapters devoted to feather - I learnt a lot from this. I dont beleive its better or worse that "The Challenge", different books with different strengths for different purposes. Together they make a great combination. Link to comment

Do you have any suggestions where I might find it? It's probably a long shot but would you be interested in selling the book? Or perhaps do you know of anyone who would? I tried searching as many libraries as possible to borrow a copy but the only one I found was in England. And you have to read it onsite. That would be a long flight for me LOL. Also, it looks like you are very serious about budgies. Have you ever heard of Dr. David Phalen? I have a friend who knows him personally, she graduated from Cornell University. She has a Ph.D. in several areas related to animal studies and specializes in Budgies. She has been working on bringing in as many colleagues in the field as possible to do presentations. She had Dr. Phalen do a presentation on avian gastric yeast, which he is an expert in and was involved in a huge scientific study. She will be uploading it to YouTube for the general public shortly. I was going to post a link in the community (if I am allowed). My friend recommended the book. She is going to see if Dr. Phalen may have a copy and then lend it to me. But if not, I'm trying to find other avenues. Anyways, I appreciate you taking the time to read my post and even if you can't help me out with the book (which I totally understand) I hope you are doing well and have happy healthy budgies! I have two of my own and they are adorable. Edited April 17 by Klarkin Please cancel this reply. I sent it to the wrong person... Link to comment
