A good start Renee :)

Hmmmm. I still have to put down some Rec Pied pairs, Lutinos, Albinos and DF White.

Good news is I found a nice Jeff Lloyd Normal Cobalt pair and have put 2 pairs of Normal Greens down. I've paired Magic and his 3 sisters, put down my 3 best Spangles sisters and found a really nice DF Yellow hen for my super McLoughlin DF Yellow cock bird. Of course the Greywings are down too.

The Clearwings I got from Gina are in quarentine for another 3 1/2 weeks but they'll go down, so there's another 3 cabinets.

I'm trying to be really focussed and only put down my very best birds ....

Best of luck Renee. This is my favorite part, waiting for the eggs.

I just put a piece of newspaper on the tray. Some hens chew it up but I replace it weekly.

I don't give them grit but I have been told that zeolite is a good substitute AND that it's recyclable, all you have to do is wash it! :)

I use old plastic signs dad had nd then i just scrape the droppings off. I also put my seed dispensers into a chinese container (obviously without the lid) this makes it super easy to clean and it give them something to stand on when they eat it works really well for me.

I got the news on Friday that I'll be moving in 3 months .... so I promptly opened up access to the nest boxes!

Most of the hens I originally pulled from the aviary some 2 weeks ago were 08 birds born in May-June and alas they are a bit slow to get the hang of the nest boxes ... but my 07 and 06 hens have gone straight in.

Of particular note, I've paired Magic up with my Violet hen (you may recall she was VERY slow to get the hang of feeding her chicks last year when I paired her with Kaz's Spangle) and to my delight she is raring to go. Now lets hope Magic is a quick learner and does his bit!

I'll take some photos and open a new general topic under Budgie Journals.

I'd pull them down.

10 - 13 days to eggs. 5 eggs would be 28 days chicks would be 42 days that would be a total of 2.7 months to get the chicks to a nappy cage.

A tight schedule Renee... Best of luck.

wow that is tight.. everything goes well... when you say you took them out of the aviary do you mean you put them down to breed 2 weeks ago?

Yes, you are all right, I'm cutting it very close BUT they've already paired up, been in the cabinets for almost a week and in the holding cages another 10 days prior.

I don't know how long it will take me to get another breeding room up and ready so it's all steam ahead for the Red ringers.

Renee ? Bear in mind different shire councils allow differing things with how many birds you can keep etc, so look into all that if you move suburbs. Down our way the birds you can keep is unlimited.

Well it's still early in the piece, but it looks like we'll just be moving down the road. I've already rung Freo Council and they're fine with what I've got. But as I said, still early days- I've yet to see inside the place BUT there's a huge brick shed and plenty of back yard garden (on a bit of a slope though).
