He was found by our neighbors wandering the street, clearly very distressed. He was taken in by my girlfriends dad, who has had budgies before. I started taking a liking to Mister and was the only one who got him out of his cage. Here is a picture of him: and from front on: I said that they should take him to the vet, about his eye. Mister is not tamed at all, he is most of the time scared out of his mind and I don't put my hand in the cage anymore. We think he was either attacked by a cat and got away or another bird. I also suggested putting up "Bird Found" around our suburb but the in-laws didn't want to. I just wanted Mister to say hi and if anyone has any suggestions. -Laurie Link to comment

Imagine if it belonged to a little ol' lady and it is her only companion or a childs favorite pet that escaped while they were changing his food? If nothing comes of it then your concience is clear. Do you think his eye was a recent accident or an old one? Probably best to take him to the vet if it looks new to make sure it does not become infected. Welcome to the forum and well done for taking the little guy in! Link to comment

Needs to see a AVIAN vet. The eye must be looked at. I'd also be advertised him in the local paper and around the neighbourhood. I'd be devastated if I lost my budgie and someone found him and kept him. Link to comment

Psittacosis can show as eye issues initially so take all care in handling the bird. If the eye is just crusted over then careful bathing with warm tea may well allow the eye to open. As injuries to the eye often result in very quickly acting infections to the brain, it does need to be assessed by somneone more qualified than us and from a photo. Link to comment

They are mega tight and don't want to pay money for someone else's bird. I then suggested that they try and find the original owner. I'll and change their minds, but they are also stubborn. The eye is full gone, and you can see the canal for the ear. Edited January 25, 2009 by Laurie Link to comment

Both VIC and NSW put down budgies that are unfit to re release into the wild as they are a native! but yes the bird does need to get to a vet, even if you do take it to the RSPCA then at least it will be put out of it's misery. This wouldnt be right. A blue budgie is not a native budgie and is easily recognised as not being an australian native budgie. I have seen birds in a hospital room at our rspca near me.
