He had his beak top and bottom growing out side ways so deformed and long it was disgusting, the owners kept trimming his beak but they didn't know what was wrong so that's all they kept on doing until a couple of months ago they ran into me which they call me the bird lady, funny. Any they explained it to me and I said it was probably scaly face so I gave them some ivermectin and explained what to do. Well each week I would run into them and they would say he was looking much better and last week the women called me and told me I was a miracle worker (real funny) that the birds legs and face had cleared up and he was much happier chirping away etc, Anyway her husband was trimming the birds beak when it fell off top and bottom she said he was horrified but once it fell off what was left was normal beak, so it must of been the scaly growth that fell off any the bird is completely recovered and now that they no that birds can have these aliments they are more wary. BUT YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD OF TAKEN THE BIRD TO THE VET AS HE MUST OF BEEN LIKE THAT FOR A VERY LONG TIME Link to comment

BUT YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD OF TAKEN THE BIRD TO THE VET AS HE MUST OF BEEN LIKE THAT FOR A VERY LONG TIME Very true, sometimes people can be so complacent with their animals. I don't understand it? Unfortunately pet budgies take the brunt of it I think. Being a cheap little household pet often seen if full sun, hanging like and ornament in little cages under verandahs. but I have also noticed it in the cat and dog world. The people in question who had these Budgies are trying to rehome a Mlatese cross Shitzu that they bought from the pound. They were ready to just hand it over to me to get rid of, I hope they dont just dump it if they cant find a home? I have 5 labradors and 1 kelpie all but one are rescues. I have 4 cats two of witch were born feral on a farm and about to be drowned. Why not just desex the cat? My home is surrounded by rescues it makes my life complete and brings me so much fulfillment, some say I am a sucker for taking them in but they just don't know what they are missing out on, the love and appreciation I recieve from the animals makes it so worth it! I can't take in the doggy they have I am up to my quota in the local council standards but I will post her picture here for anyone that is interested and maybe I can look after her for someone if they are interested until they can get her? Her name is Blossom, she is desexed, vaccinated, has just had her coat clipped. She has been raised with 2 ~ 3 year old twin girls and needs rehoming as the owners are moving to Tasmania and can only take one dog and they already have another just like her. I am not sure when rehomed if she will miss the companionship of the other dog? She is 2 years old and like I say was bought from the pound, she is being given away free. P.M. me if you are interested. Back to the subject at hand.....I wonder if these two budgies will have the same thing happen, reveal a "new" beak? Any name suggestions are welcome too! I need names to refer them to! Link to comment

The blue boy and yellow girl pictured below have four babies and the two greens have four babies between them too. Today I went to feed them and found a chick from the first pair on the floor of the aviary. I messaged Kaz to try and think of possible solutions to the problem, meanwhile I found a chick from the other nest on the ground also. Between Kaz and I we worked out it would be bestand safer to put their logs in to two of my large cages and hope for the best. The second chick almost got stepped on by me, I coundn't have lived with myself had I killed it! Sorry its a bit fuzzy the light wasn't great and I didnt want to scare them with the flash. The first chick I found on the ground pictured below is nearly fledged: Link to comment

Ours used to come out of their nest too early, but at least if you have them in cages now they'll land safely and should still be able to get fed. Good work- again! Pictured is one of the mothers and since day one this is how her cere has looked. I thought it was a recent split from a fight but considering I have had them nearly two weeks and it still looks the same I am not sure. It is very pink and fresh looking in the split. Has anyone seen a cere with this type of damage before? These are the best photo's I could get tonight, I'll try again tomorrow if necessary. Link to comment

Thanks Krosp for your kind words. I have now moved them to a container on the floor of the cage as Kaz mentioned this might work and the parents will still know where to find them. I don't want it happening again and hopefully this will prevent any further accidents. If it works successfully with this lot by tomorrow, I will do it with the others because they too have a silly log with catchy bits on it. Thanks again, Trish. Link to comment
