My daughter and I are looking for a Yellowface (type 1 or 2) violet or cobalt recessive pied hen. We thought we'd go to ACE COLONY AVIARIES to have a look for one since they have so many birds - what do you think - is it an okay place to buy a budgie?

Have you tried any breeders near you? I say that because you will probably find a breeder cheaper and you'll get better information. I have never been to the place you mentioned but generally breeders are the way to go...

Is there a breeder in Sydney with a YF Cobalt or Violet Recessive Pied Hen available?

In our wanted to buy section we have a breeders list of forum members...go through it, check out who is near you and send them a PM message.

WHat area in sydney are you from?

IS the ace colonies you are thinking of going to in wenthworthville?

THe bloke who owns it is Rob. Nice bloke, definately knows what he is talking about. funny enough Rob has plenty of pairs he is in the midst of pairing up which shall all be YF, violets etc.

There is hundreds of birds in the shops to pick from. Looking at about $30 on average for a good bird for there.

Breeders are generally cheaper than bird dealers and they can tell you the history of the bird and its parents, grand parents etc.

Ace Colonies on the Great Western Highway near Wentworthville - have always been treated well either buying or selling. Prices are reasonable and you can sometimes pick up birds from top breeders there. You always take a chance when you buy a bird from an unknown source - quarantine is even more important than usual. Many breeders prefer not to have strangers in their aviaries and this is nothing to do with being anti-social. Sadly, some breeders have been "cleaned out" after years of building up and maintaining a stud and so sometimes breeders tend to be a bit wary of people they don't know. Joining a bird club helps provide you with contacts. Ace is the longest established bird shop in the Sydney metropolitan area. Edited by KAZ

Ace colonies do have a good reputation ,There is another place you might want to check out ,quite a few breeders sell there culls to this place and you can get a bargain, worth checking out.

Berkshire Park Bird Farm & Pet Supplies .

You can nominate the name of the other pet store you are talking about.

I can only think you are referring to Kellyville Pets. Is that right?

They do not sell Show Budgies, only pet types. Bit more expensive as well.

Has anyone been to Ace Colony Aviaries recently? I tried to go there on the weekend and it was shut however there was still a sign saying it was there and the opening hours listed indicated it should've been open. Another person pulled up while I was there and said they had been calling for 3 weeks with no reply. You can hear that there are a number of birds still on the property it just never seems to be open. Perhaps the owner is on holidays and has decided to close for a few weeks?

I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows anything about whether they are still in business.
