I was just wondering if budgies travel well and what is the best way about going about transporting them long distances?

I live in Caboolture at the moment however I will be moving out to St George soon (it's about 8 hours travelling). There will be maybe 2 to maybe 3 times I will need to transport them back to Caboolture when I am on holidays and have finished my year out west. Will they be alright? I'll try and cut down their travelling time as much as I can to really limit the amount of time they have to spend in the car but I don't want to burden the family I am working for with having to look after my birds on top of every other animal they have to look after...

Thanks.

Budgies normally travel very well, infact some love it! Cover atleast three sides of their cage so they don't freak out the first time and just see how they go :D

Like MB said just make sure they are covered on 3 sides and they should be fine. you don't want the car to get to hot but other than that they should do fine.. :D

Levi LOVES IT! Every day on the way to work he sits on my shoulder or the shoulder of the seat and chats away to mummy. Singing sweetly. He is a hunni!

Budgies do travel well but the safest way to transport is in a small cage with no perches, a towel on the bottom and a towel covering the cage. They don't tend to eat or drink during travel time and if it is no longer then 8 hours I wouldn't worry about it, you could if you wanted put in a wet leaf of green leaf lettuce or kale for water if they need it.

I once dove 9 budgies up to Metford to Deb's place, about 3 hours all up due to traffic.

They were great. They loved it , chirping happily. I made sure that the air con was on so they were not too hot, though not blowing on them directly.

The person who suffered the most was me - they were so loud.
