This was a long time ago when I was just 16. I grew up with Buffy and took her such places as the Sydney Harbour bridge. One day I was with her at Sunshine Beach in Noosa and the night before had been stormy and a container ship had to dump its load in heavy seas. This load just happened to be tennis balls and millions of them. Poor Buff didnt know which ones to retrieve first and that all her Chrissy's had come at once! Todays vet visit ended with her having to be put to sleep, she is now in doggy heaven with our German Shepherd Harley. Buffy had a strange cough that had developed rather quickly. Xrays showed an enlarged heart that was pressing on her lungs which had 3 large tumors the sized of 10c pieces and 6 smaller ones. This was what was causing her to cough. The vet said she was amazed Buffy made it this long. I was told the only care I could give her would just prolong the inevitable and that she would likely to go downhill quickly. So was best to let her go gracefully. She gave me the best of her life and I owed it to her not to allow her to suffer. Buffy was already deaf and weak in her hind legs and could not really hold her toileting movements anymore, she also had a tumor one her chest that had doubled in size in the last month that they believe was cancer also so god knows where else it had spread as we only xrayed her chest. Anyway heres to Buffy :angel1: always alive in my heart R.I.P. Link to comment

Take it easy on yourself and don't be afraid to bawl your eyes out when you need too. People that never had a close animal companion don't really understand how heartbreaking the situation is. I really hope you have some close family and friends that knew Buffy that you can feel comfortable speaking with and remembering her in a fond way.....I loved the story about the tennis balls...for sure you can only smile when you think of that! What a lucky little girl she was to have found you...you gave Buffy a life that was rich with love and experiences, for sure you were both blessed the day you found each other. Remember too that you gave her a gift by the way she left this world...there are so many suffering animals that don't have such endings (and humans if we are honest)...truley this is one of the biggest gifts you were able to give Buffy. I lost my baby boy, Erin, in September 07 and there isn't a day that I don't miss him but at the same time, there isn't a day that I don't thank God for sending him to me to enrich my life for all those years. Yes, I have been bawling my eyes out most of the day, they are so sore! I really love the picture of Buffy at the waterfall, it really looks like she is smiling! My mum husband and kids have been wonderful, especially my 10 y.o. daughter, she is so caring and took her little sister who is 6 and played with her to let me speak on the phone to the vet etc, what an angel she is! Buffy is going to be cremated, my mother in law suggested it, as she knew Buffy and what a great dog she was. I might scatter her one day at the tennis ball beach! My vet is an hours drive away and before I found out the bad news yesterday I had already left her with them and come home, they told me it might take a while as they were busy. Its school holidays and it was just me and the kids, the trip in the car to go and get her and bring her home would have been too sad. So for her to be cremated seemed the best option and more dignified and a nice prospect to let her go free at the beach. Link to comment

I called ahead to my 10 y.o. daughter to "grab that dog" as it was about to run onto the road. She managed to get it and we took it home to our caravan for the night after trying the number on his tag and getting an answering service. He slept on our bed and did most of the sweet tricks that Buffy used to do, give me his paw and demanded a belly rub etc!I called the owner the next day and he was away in Torquay and couldn't come till the night time, I said I didnt mind as he reminded me of my dog that had passed away the week before. That night he came to get "Baxter" and I reluctantly handed him over. The owner thanked me and told me he had a Jack Russell at home having pups in 3 weeks and that he wanted to give me one for finding Baxter! He is selling them all but won't charge me. I think it is fate or Karma the way this has worked out! Maybe Buffy arranged this one in some weird way!!! :angel1: Below: Baxter and my daughter Caela and my brother Regan (four days younger than my daughter!).
