I noticed a grandmother today buying her grandkids some budgies in a pet shop today in one of those dome topped canary cages (seen on here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=17858 ) and just had to say something.

Just before she left the store I mentioned about the budgies feet could get trapped, I felt rude interrupting but like I also pointed out to her, how upsetting it would be to find one R.I.P. hanging from the top. She mentioned that she would have to get a new cage and looking around there were a lot of very expensive cages in the shop so I told her of where I got mine from. I am glad for all that I have learned here and that I was able to help toward the safety of the little fellas!

It is always hard when you want to do something like this. You never know the type of reaction you will get. I do it alot in supermarkets when I see people buying mirrors and bells for their pets some people can't believe how rude you are being others ask more questions and others sort of brush you off. But I figure that if me doing this helps one bird then it's worth a few brush off and rude comments.

It seems like she took your advice on board which is good. Well done.

Speaking of good cages, I'd eventually like to get my birds a long cage with some flying room. I've been looking at relocatable aviaries on ebay, but we are renting here for 6-12 months and my husband would kill me if I bought another large item that we will have to move with us. We had to hire 2 x 8 tonne trucks to move here in the first place! And we are not hoarders, we just had a very large house (5 bed, 3 living, 2 dining etc) and lots of furntiure (plus 2 kids and their hundreds of toys!).

Anyway - where might I buy a nice large cage that is not TOO large, but better than an average bird cage? And how much are they? Obviously, in these financial times, the cheaper the better (as long as it's safe).
