okay time for older ones Kaz

I agree I think sexing them that young really has to do with hands on day to day contact because I can do the older ones better, I bet Neat you will get better at it too :D.

Very interesting thread Kaz. :) My guesses for baby 3 and 6 were wrong. Looking forward to know the difference between baby 2 and baby 3, they both look similar and also baby 3 cere colour is pale pink, so thought girl.

Also got confused with baby 6, since the nostrils were narrow thought it is male and since cere colour was pale pink that made me to rethink as female.

Kind request to moderators, I think this thread is very much worth to pin. :fear

Hi Kaz,

Just a quick question, have you actually posted anywhere exactly how you tell them apart, what to look for in chicks this young? colour of cere, size and shape of cere and nostrils etc. I wanted to have a go but didn't know what to even start to look for in such young ones. I generally have to wait till they are a clearer pink or purple. Thanks

Read the whole topic as YES I have posted that info in this topic already

Seeing how this topic is still live-ish, would it be possible to do a new one so us newer ones can have a try, I am just learning, and that was fun doing that.

It's the older ones that are problematic......especially if you can't see a definite pink ceres or they start to go blue yet look purple. Or they look mixed as if it's going to be a girl and then turns out to be a boy. Have I had to change names from Peter to Petra or John to Joan....hrhehe

Hello all,

I have a baby budgie, Nikolai, who is around 8 weeks old. I have tried identifying their gender through the cere but am getting mixed outcomes. I would like an external opinion.

Thank you ?
