I so often hear members on here who say you cannot sex a baby budgies until its first moult and when a cere gets "colour" . Even experienced breeders who should know by now say the same thing.

I can sex my baby budgies in the nestbox at age 3-5 days.

Here is a girl budgie

I will endeavor to get some better photos in better light conditions to show what I mean and what to look out for. Often it is easier to sex a baby at this age and write down the details for later, as some changes occur that may mislead you in between this age and leaving the nestbox.

Like I said, I can sex MINE at this age. If you post pictures and ask me to sex yours at the same age, we may not have the same result as me looking at your budgie in REAL LIFE conditions as opposed to photos will may not show same colours as seeing them in person.

Some of mine I can sex at an early age as it jumps right out, but sometimes I am not quite so sure, particularly with inos, recessives etc. I havent even tried to guess sex at babies this young. Maybe I should and record it and see how accurate I am

You could put a little photo of them at that young age on their "file" along with your guesses, and if any turn out to be incorrect you could look again at their features at that age to work out where you went wrong. It would be a good way to learn and hone you skills.

Even at that age JB you can see a whiter cere for female and a pinker one for the boys. Hen chicks also seem to have more bulbous cere and larger nostrils. Boys have smaller nostrils usually.
