:D:huh::D (Sorry guys... couldn't resist this topic title)

Tweet Tweet, father of my Opaline's including Gucci and Dolce, is living it up back at the aviary at home. He shares the space with one other cock budgie, many females and two Cockatiels. Out of all the birds in the avairy... he is one hormonal guy!!! He paired up with Crackle, had their clutch together, and then returned to the aviary. Since that time Crackle spent some time at my place as she was a little under the weather. Upon returning, he was VERY excited... but that soon calmed down. I now notice he is very keen on another female of mine. He wont leave her alone. My concern is that part of the reason Crackle was sick was that Tweet Tweet stressed her and brought out these symptoms... thinking this, I worry the new love of his life will too become unwell.

Now... what to do??? I do have a large cage in my breeding room I could put him in for the next few months, but I worry he won't be happy. I know you can cover their cage to reduce daylight hours, but they live in an aviary. I could bring him to the flat, but he is very noisy and not an ideal inside bird... I know the most important thing at the moment is the health of my birds... and that is why I ask this question. As I am not living at home, breeding at the moment is out of the question, so he really just needs to 'keep it in his pants' so to speak... but try telling him that!!!

Any advice or ideas would be most helpful... maesie xo

LOL ... Oh Maes - To bad it isn't that Sexy vet of yours that has that problem

:hap:

put him in a Separate cage he may stress a little but better one stressed birds then a few .

This will also decrease his flight and lower his " hormones"

As it is day light saving cover him up early and reduce the day light he has ....

That is all that I can add mate ...

best of luck with Randy little thing

Well if there is no nesting boxes, can't you just let him have his fun? Kaz probably would know best.

It's okay to let him have fun with the hens as long as the hens are having fun too. some cocks can get over excited and start to stress the hen from too much action - I had this with a young cock who just kept at the hen, she ended up sick form stress :) She had to go on antibiotics and he got separated from her for 4 weeks. They are both fine now and he has calmed down.

That is what I think happened with Crackle. I might just keep a close eye on him! I'm all for having fun (yeah Elly, no nest boxes), but don't want to loose any hens because of his urges... or have them on a merry-go-round of antibiotics!

Well, after much thought... I have decided to sell him to MB. He was a bird who came to me as he flew into a friends yard and she didn't want him. He has given me 5 lovely babies (3 of which I still own) and has been a great pet. The solution in his best interest was to separate him from my aviary birds and decrease his daylight hours. As I am not home much, this would mean asking Dad to do it. There have also been two eggs laid on the floor of the aviary in the last few days  The other solution would be to allow him to have another clutch, again... something I can't manage at the moment. So, I have been in touch with MB and she has agreed to take him off my hands. After his quarantine she's happen to let him have some more babies ( :ohmygod: He'll be excited!!!!)

I'm sure he'll be very happy at MB place. I feel a little bad, but know this is the best decision for him and me. If I had an aviary in my current yard, I'd be breeding him, but I feel I can not do what is best for him now and here...

Thanks MB and I'll see you in the morning! :D

He'll be out of quarantine in time to go into my new set up which I'm rearranging at the moment. It's a little choatic here (as AV saw yesterday) but I got a little more done today and I'm hoping to have it finished tomorrow in time to go and pick up some birds from AV as well. When I'm finished I should have space for one more ank of four breeding cages so he'll be a happy boy :ohmygod:

I'll pick him up ntomorrow AV and we'll see what happens. He's opaline so not really my thing colourwise but I might use him for a round or two if I like him and then if you want him he can head your way to check out the hens in your neck of the woods :party0011:

It'll be kinda like a Contiki tour :)

Nah, we can just keep a steady supply of hens up to him here :) Plus unlike Maesie, who is restricted by her living arrangements, I have a few more housing options for him :party0011:

He is only like this during breeding season. (He is not aggresive and has never attacked another bird, just keen.) At other times he is a great bird and happy to feed and look after his chosen woman. My only option here was to put him in a smallish cage in my breeding room which is tiny and adjoins my avairy. I saw this as cruel as he could see the ladies, here the ladies but not have the ladies... At MB's or Av's he can breed a few clutches and the retire to the avairy... she also has more room... so I see this as a solution to my problem, but also a better one for him and his needs. :)
