 Jordan and Mack are new parents

Bub 1 arrived this morning and seems healthy so far, mum and dad are in there taking care of him, I sneaked a quick picture and will add more when his brothers and sisters arrive.

Eggs 2 and 3 hatched yesterday :D but I found one of them dead his morning, egg 4 should hatch tomorrow, mum and dad seem to be doing a great job, loving the sprouted seed I have started giving them and even tucking in to the egg mix which they didn't touch before.

Well Jordan is now the proud mum of 4 healthy chicks and a great mum she is, for a first timer she is doing a wonderful job, ohh and I can't forget Mack he is great to, helps her feed the babies and stays in there to keep her company.

here is a picture of little bubs

birds164.jpg

the youngest (hatched yesterday) is snuggled in under the rest :P

is now a good time to put in the wood shavings I bought or is the youngest to young yet?

okay I haven't been on much these days but I thought that I would give you an update on Mack and Jordan's 3 chicks

chick 1 (16 days old)

birds166-1.jpg

birds167-1.jpg

Chick 2 (15 days old)

birds169-1.jpg

birds168.jpg

and chick 3 ( 10 days old)

birds172.jpg

he seems to be a bit camera shy

so far I think all will be greywings, which means mum is split for it, chick 3 seems to be darker in skin colour than the other 2, I don't know if that means anything, I guess I will have to wait a little longer to see if they are more like mum or dad. All are healthy and happy, mum is very good about me handling them she sits just outside the box and squeaks abit but thats it then goes back in and checks on them as soon as I have closed the lid.

Ohh and here is a group shot just cause it is cute

Baby three looks to be a hen too ( or did you use the flash on the camera as that can change things ?? ) Dad IS an oplaine not split..he just is one. So that makes baby three a boy.

ahhh I can't believe I didn't know that Mack is an opaline, I will try to get some more pics without the flash, my camera has a hissy fit wheneveer i try to do this though so I will see what happens, so you think I have 2 opaline hens and a normal green or grey green cock, is that right?

well despite all their dramas lately chick 1 and 3 have ventured out of the box today, they are so cute running around investergating, chick 2 decline to join her sisters and is still snuggled up in her bed but I am sure she will want to join the fun soon.

one question though, do I put them back in the box tonight or leave them where they are???

If fully feathered and the Mum hasnt begun to lay other eggs, they can stay in the bottom of the breeder cage. You may want to put a little tub there that they can nestle in. If not fully feathered they can go back at night for a few nights. If mum has begun laying again dont put them back.

I normally put the chicks back in the box at night for the first night or two - 80% of the time they jump out again, but there is no harm in doing so if the parents are loving and not harming the chicks. You can put an upturned container on the bottom of the cabinet too for the chicks to sit in if you feel they are out a little early.

okay cool, chick 1 is fully feathered but chick 3 isn't, thats the one losing all her feathers, so I think I will try putting them back in tonight. Mum hasn't started laying again yet and am not sure what to do here, I was going to seperate herfor a couple of days then when the chicks are okay remove them and dad and put her down with another cock bird BUT I am not sure if I should do this due to the FM thing happening, the vet said I could try it and see what happens but I would like some other opinions please?

I just posted some pics of the babies in the health section due to the feather problems but would really like for some on the take a stab at what the first 2 are, I know they are opalines but the body colour has me stumped, mum is a green normal and dad is a greygreen greywing opaline, (he is not the best greygreen I have seen) but chicks 1 and 2 are much more of a yellow colour, not the bright yellow of a lutino but a just yellow I can't really describe it better than that, sorry. anyway here are a couple of pics, see what you think and let me know
