On Saturdays my husband gets up early (6am) to read the local paper and I get a little sleep in usually get up about 8am. This morning I came down to the kitchen and he's says to me do you have a spare $50, I sleepily ask why and he informs me he has just bought 10 cockatiels out of the paper.

We had spoken about getting one as my 12 year old wanted one for Christmas. One not 10.

After much discussion about where he was going to put them etc. we went off to get them. They are nice looking birds and in good health, so now we own 10 cockatiels as well as 64 budgies, 4 canaries, 2 gouldian finches, 2 society finches and 6 zebra finches.

He has to now finish off the 4m x 3m avairy as I have had to take the canaries and finches out of their avairy, only 1.8m x 1.5m to put the cockatiels in for the time being.

The frame has been done in the back yard for about 8 weeks and the wire is on, he just has to do the sheeting and roof. 'These things take time' I've been told again and again so this afternoon I said "IT'S TIME NOW".

Some photos, not very good as I took them late yesterday afternoon and they're flight skittish, still today. They aren't used to human interaction as the avairy they were in just had a shelf that slid out of the side to change seed and water so no-one ever went into the avairy apparently

Not sure what is on the beak I didn't notice it myself until I posted the photos. I'll have to try and catch him and have a look.

Any hints on how to catch a cockatiel and keep my fingers :P

They are beautiful birds :P

Too tell if a cockatiel on SOME mutations the females have barring (stripes) under their tails, BUT know that young tiels all have the barring and then once they molt out you can see it on the females on some mutations. Pieds, lutinos, inos don't follow the rule (there may be others in there too)

That's where I have the problem, I don't like to catch a bird with gloves on as I like to be able to feel the bird, maybe I'll leave that to hubby

Thanks Elly. The lady said they aren't young, between the ages of 3-4 she thinks. They have leg rings on some so I'll have to check them for ages.
