Hi Try this http://www.budgerigar.com.au/results.html

you have to train your eye to a show bird the best is to be patient and just check all the links you can make sure you check Australia show bird as that is what you are after, and when the show are on go to as many as you can.It take a while but you will get there.

Yeah Neat it takes time, for it to get into your head, I think I am slowly getting the idea or feel of what a bird should look like. When I see good birds on the net or on this forum I copy & keep so that I can look at them from time to time, so slowly it forms in your mind. The problem is that I don't agree will all that's in some of the birds, my thoughts are that the heads look quite good, but some need to have some of the body feathers trimmed down, so the bird is more sleek. So that you can see their feet & legs more & so you don't have to go trimming feathers around the vent to get fertile eggs.

<br />okay, like does their hair grow like that, or do you bring them to the budgie salon for a boofy doo?<br />
<br /><br /><br />

Erin its called directional feather & you have to select for it…it’s in their genes. Sorry it’s not as easy as a trip to the salon…LOL…

This bird is of high show quality, yet to me, it is not attractive.

I know that I am not a show breeder or a show judge, but to me, it does not look right.

This is what happens when personal preference collides with show standards.

It can happen with all pets. Personally I hate those hairless dogs. There are versions that come with hair, and some without hair. In the show dog worls, the ones with hair are the ones with the fault. To me, I would choose the hairy ones to the hairless ones everday.

I know what you mean Dave to me the bird has to function first as a healthy capable bird, before I think of what it will look like in a show. Us humans do some cruel things to other life forms in our quest for “THE IDEAL”.

The Lutof bird has some good points…great spots with the bulls eye which you don’t see that much any more…I have some more show types that don’t even fly, it could be something to do with feather quality or buffy-ness, or if the directional feather is too great…can they really see in front of themselves to allow them to fly.

I think the photo of the Lutolf birds exagerates its features. If we had the same photo sideways then the bird would look different.

I have been on another forum reading a post on exhibition birds that runs for 56 pages. Not sure if I can post it here but I will PM you the link Neat. Enjoy reading.

The thing is Daniel Lutolf says all his birds MUST fly; the all look similar to that picture too side on or front on. I do actually really like the style of his birds.

Ask the breeder to pick a pair for you. If you like them get them if not ask for another pair. Dont worry no matter how good they are now in 12 mths you will still think they are **** compared to what you will have then!! :P

Go-on just get some LOL

Be patient before you buy birds. Its my second year breeding show birds and I have not shown any. This Friday will be my first. I am taking 3 birds to our table show to see how they square up with the other novice breeders. I dont expect to win but I do expect to come back with answers on where my birds need improvements.

Keep in mind when talking to breeders/judges it is only their opinion on what makes one bird better than the others. You coud show the same birds to different judges and they will all rate them differently.
