Enfield Bird Auction

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, I'm back from the bird Auction.

I left early (11:30am) as it took over an hour to get through only the first quarter of birds - the only catch was i could not take my buys until after the auction was finished. A breeder from Gawler offered to drop my birds my place on his way home, which is really nice of him. I am still waiting for them to come, it must have been a HUGE day.

The most expensive bird that I saw sell was $700 for a very handsome dominant pied cock :D

I am sure there would have been a lot more expensive birds as there were some VERY VERY nice ones towards the end.

I bought a normal cinnamon grey and a Yellow DF spangle. I couldn't afford any of the ones i really liked, but i am not breeding for show so i didn't mind buying the ones that were "average".

I cant wait to see my birds up close - I will post pictures when i can.

I hope the others had some good buys too - I saw Sunnie win a few before i left :hap:

It was great fun and it was lovely to meet Tam, Lucy and Sunnie (again :D )

I have been to a budgie auction, that finished early,Its either a slow auctioneer or to many birds.

Slow auctioneer get up my nose & they think they are doing a wonderful job.

Come on buyers, give us a run down on prices & who's birds.

There was 275 birds for auction and only about 80 people to bid so it was quite slow as the auctionerr tried to convince people to bid lol.

My birds arrived a few minuites ago - poor things have had a big day so i wont pester them with the camera until tomorrow. They look lovely and are bigger than i remember :P

I didn't buy anything, but it was a lot of fun. I feel in love with a clearwing violet  I had never seen violets before in real life, they are absolutely beautiful  I can't stop thinking about him..... :P

It was really exciting watching the bids go up, especially for the few that went above $500.

I can't wait to see Sunnie, Lucy and Liv's pictures.

Well I am home from my fiance's with my birds. My must haves.......we (or should I say he) paid for, but I am very happy with them. A few that looked like very nice types that didnt get bids, we decided to pick up for $20 ea. We ended up with 13 birds in all - I think our inexperience is still showing, cause ummm.......11 of them were cock birds, but a lot of the hens we started bidding on went for well over $100 and we werent quite prepared to pay that much yet. I will post pics when I get around to sorting them out and recording them. I think things are going to get a bit more serious for our birds now, as we have a good start to start breeding some nice show types and I have made a few lovely friends in the show biz who are giving me great advice.

The auction didnt finish up til just after 2pm and then of course, we had to wait around for our birds. Lucy and her fiance Andrew picked up a few birds, unfortunately, we didnt get to see them. But we caught up with them later at a shopping centre - also buying an extra cage lol

It was lovely to see Liv again and meet Lucy and Andrew. We didnt really meet Tam, but I sort of thought that was who was sitting behind me lol

I hope to get pics tomorrow, if time permits.

I look forward to seeing pics of your birds too Liv

Can't wait to see the pics of the new birds. I've never been to an auction and I was all set to go to the BRASEA auction today at Lawnton but a couple of days ago I got phone call saying I had to go to work! Oh well next time maybe lol. What is the average price for a show bird at auctions?

Here are my birds :D

Cinnamon Grey Cock - 06 - from VIC

He is (i think) quite nice and will be Lady's new husband. He has a bit of a tail bob happening so i will get on top of that before quarantine is finished -hopefully its just stress. He has had a HUGE week being driven from Vic, then all the commotion before and after the auction.

My DF spangle Hen - 07

I really like her - she was an impulse buy, but i have a normal YF2 Cock to put with her and i think i will get some nice chicks - I really like her and she seems fit as a fiddle (not bad for $20 :D )

Well, here are a couple of quick snaps I took this afternoon after settling the birds in the spare room. Basically all the blues are in one cage and all the greens in the other, except for one yf sky and he keeps running up and down looking at the blue birds as if to say "Hey! Im blue too, why arent I with them!" It's a space decision though lol

And yes, I know one of my green boys looks a little fluffed, but I snapped that picture just before bedtime and they have had a BIG weekend. They have all been super active and eating and seem very healthy, but I will make sure he has had his beauty sleep in the morning and that he has lost his "fluffed look".

TCB's are becoming one of my passions and I think its one of the mutations I would like to specialise in. I am hoping to breed some good enough to show and some just because they are pretty (yellow face tcbs are not good for show so I have been informed). I picked up 3 visual TCBs and 2 cocks that are split, so Im very excited!

Some of my new guys have names already, the others I am still working on. I am really excited, spoiled, grateful and lucky to have such a wonderful partner who over indulges me. I dont plan on indulging much more for at least 12 months or so, as I hope to breed my own beauties now :D (Except for a couple of lacewing hens coming my way in a few weeks, but they were pre-arranged!! :))

Here are my blues

Buddy - yf skyblue tcb

My green series (except for yf skyblue cock in the bottom left hand corner, who objects!)

Allgreens.jpg

TCBs Griffin and Phoenix and he who objects yf skyblue

I am hoping to take individual pics of them tomorrow if I can get around to it while the light is good, but I wont post them all, but I will have them if anyone is more interested in seeing a better picture of a particular bird :D

Its funny, I dont know if it was the stress of the day for me or the cold or exactly what, but I was very ill afterwards. I was so freezing in that cold hall, and when we got home to Adam's, I was feeling nauseous and couldnt get warm no matter what. I had to go to bed early and had the electric blanket on for hours before I finally stopped shivering. I really think I was that stressed out, cause I woke up just fine today. It was a VERY long day

Very nice Sunnie...

"One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong, can you tell me which one is not like the other by the time I finish this song..." :) (was on a sesame street cassette we used to listen to as kids)

Sunnie & Liv your birds look wonderful, I wish I had an opportunity here where I love to have an aviary but it is impossible with our climate in the state we live in. I really enjoying seeing these show birds, when I first started as a pet budgie owner I didn't really like their look but then I got Merlin and continued to watch all the different shower grown on this site and really enjoy the look of both types of budgies. They are beautiful, glad you all had a good time whether you brought home a bird or just enjoyed the show.

You poor thing :(

I get like that sometimes and for me it's an anxiety attack - I find sleep is the best cure to get rid of the horrible shaking and nausea. I am pleased you are feeling better :)

Thank you for the lovely comments. Thanks Liv, I do feel much better now - I am never normally an anxious person at all, the budgie bug must have me bad! lol

My bird who looked a bit fluffed last night, looks absolutely fine today thankfully. Sorry about the oversized pictures, not sure what happened there, I resized on photobucket to the size recommended, but I guess they was still too big.

I look forward to seeing Lucy and Andrew's birds! Lucy is going overseas in the very near future, not sure exactly when, so the job falls to Andrew now for the next four months of posting and pictures. Come on Andrew - show off your new birdies!! LOL :D

I also read in the "shout box" that Charlie went to the auction and bought birds too - are you gonna share Charlie?? :P

Hi All,

I am currently sitting on a computer at the airport, my plane has been delayed by an hour!!!

As Sunnie said...I'm off on the holiday of a lifetime for the next few months, but I will hassle Andrew to take some piccies of our new birds and put them online!!!

It was a fantastic experience and great to meet Liv & Sunnie (and fiance).

I will definitely stay 'in touch' whilst i'm away!!
