i would love to share with you our first pair of budgies Timmy &Taylia. i would like to know from any of you whether you think they would be a good pair and what colours are they called please... all new to me here they are .....

As if they are good to pair together they look so they are the pet variety vs the show variety.

 

The Green one is a Green Dominant Pied

The Blue one is an Sky Blue Opaline Dominant Pied

 

Your outcomes: ( I don't do exact % some do I just do from the top of my head)

 

Green is a dominant color over blue so unless your GREEN bird is carrying the blue gene all your babies will be 100% greens

 

100% Dominant Pieds

 

Your male birds will be split to opaline but you won't have any female opalines in this batch since Opaline is a Sex-Linked Gene.

 

You can always have surprises in the nest because there are both recessive genes that both parents can carry that can come out OR the male could be carrying a sex-linked gene such as ino, opaline etc..and these birds that would have this mutation would all be hens.

 

Some of this may not make sense so feel free to ask questions.

Thank you Elly for your comments on our Birds , so iam understanding it i think ...lol if these two have young ones because of his dominate colour they will all throw green ......hmmmmmmmm is that good ....lol greens are very common arnt they ? what male would be better to pair the female with do you think or should i just let it happen now they are together...iam getting another pair of blue coloured ones next week ...lol that sounds nice doesnt it not sure of there proper names ..heheheh really want to thank you for your advise regards John & Swanacilli ...

The 2 new blues should be in quarantine for 30 days before they met your new birds. If you want more blues and want 100% guarantee then yes 2 blues is best BUT you will need to wait after the quarntine period. If these 2 are bonded, you have already put in a nesting box and they haven't shown signs of mating yet you could take out the box and then pair them up differently. Green is common but so is blue, you will find greys are less common at least here in my area they are.

sorry but i'm not seeing any signs from those pictures that she is opaline.

 

I would like a closer shot of her and of her back, as i can see some marks on her tail and want to know if they are just shadows or not. she might be cinnamon or a form of dilute as it seems her thoat spots are not the normal black.

 

But I would leave these two together.

Are the yellow ones' markings green or are they kind of mixed green and light blue? I think I can see some blue around the edges which would actually making it a yellow face blue and that would change your results.

Her barrings on her head are lighter to then normal I was thinking Dilute but didn't want to say anything as I am 9 times out of 10 wrong

Spangles are beautiful, that is the look that someone penciled the outer part of their wings vs the marking in the middle. You will have a 50% change of Spangle babies. Opaline is the head marking reversed that is on the hen there you will only have males split (they will not be visible for opaline) you will only have opaline babies if the dad is carrying the gene but you can't tell because he needs 2 Opaline genes to actually express it visually.

But i know a member here Named Neat who had a pair one was like your male and the other was Albino and Only 1 came out looking like the dom pied

Sorry but this isn't the case the male is paired to a white face blue this means only a 50% chance of the yellowface gene being passed onto the chicks.

There will be a nice mix of young with this pair.
