Hello, I am a new registeree. I have a baby budgie - only a few months old - and he wobbles constantly! He is so unstable he finds it hard to sit on his perch. I have separated him from the aviary birds and put him in his own cage, where he mostly stays down on the cage floor. He is happy and healthy in all other regards. Could someone give me some advice? Thanks.

It sounds like a neurological problem to me if he's always done it. Chances are there may be not alot you can do other than make his cage easy for him to navigate.

Hi there and welcome ;)

In checking your baby budgies feet does he have a good grip on your finger when he perches or does he sit on the sides of his feet and not use his feet properly ?

PS any relations to an Andrew Zylstra of Perth ?

Hello and welcome ;)

It could be rickets. How are his feet???

hehe snap Kaz!

I have a budgie with rickets (Scooter) He is completely normal otherwise, just has trouble gripping the perch at times.

He has always done it. His feet seem to curl inwards at the toe.He does the swaying/wobbling even when he is on the floor of his cage. I'm looking at him now, and it's even like a lillte bop. Its very strange. He is so sweet though.

What do rickets look like?

I haven't had him out of his cage yet. He belonged to my dad - only really got him today. No, no relation. There are heaps of us around though - for an unusual surname.
