I definatly think she is a female as she has white rings around her nostrils but as this would be my first time identifying a female would someone be able to tell my if my judgement is correct.

Molly looks so very sweet and I am sure she is one happy little budgie  I bet Blue loves having a new friend too. You've done a great job :budgiedance:

Hay everyone, sorry I haven't been around much been studying for exams. But as I am typing this thread Molly and Blue are running along the computer desk chasing each other. Molly still isn't that tame she hates coming out but when Blue's out she loves coming out too. Shes always following him around its so cute. I just put my mobile phone jewellery on the desk for them and Blue's pulling it around the desk with Molly trailing after him. I love them there so cute. I found out what type of music my birds like..... country. there so loud when country music is on and when the music gets louder so do they. Anyway thats all from me and the birds.

Molly is starting to rip paper up in the bottom of her cage is this normal for a female budgie? Also my Grandad had a female budgie and she layed eggs even without a male in the cage. Is this normal?? If for the first question she is starting to breed then what should i put on the cage floor as there is only a sheet of newspaper that gets changed daily?Sorry i haven't been on for a while we went to Singapore over the holidays. My exams went well i past with B+. Molly is getting really big she still has a few baby feathers but she is losing her black bars she has a white iris and her cere is turning from white to brownish pink. I will post some more pics soon. But she still has no new flights feathers the only one that she had broke of and blood went everywere.

It is quite normal for budgies to shred the paper in the bottom of their cage - Both my males and females do it - Its great fun for them :D

Female budgies do lay occasionally without a male, and it can become a problem too. but for now Molly is just playing and it should stay that way if you keep changing the paper every day and not giving her anywhere to nest :D

P.s Well done on your exams :D

Thanks, i was starting to freak out when she started shreading the paper because Auzzie never did it and Blue doesn't do it either just Molly. Can anyone explain why Molly hasn't got any flight feathers growing yet even though she has been through her first moult???

The flight feathers will come  - mine are going through a first moult too and ever now and then a flight feather pops through - a moult can take weeks, sometimes months to complete.

No, the lenght of the cut flight will not impact. All the flight feathers will slowly fall out one by one and be replaced, one by one too. You really notice it when their wings are cut - I am waiting for my tiel to grow his flights back too - its taking for EVER!!!

Heres a photo of Blue's and Molly's set up. They get a weekly supply of fresh eucalypt leaves etc. I put the plant cuttings into a plastic bottle and secured it to the side of the cage so that the birds could make it fall over. They really love tearing it apart the plants also last longer too. This is an old photo when I first introduced Molly to Blue after quaranteen. it's not a great photo.

Try misting the budgies with a spray bottle of water on a fine and sunny day. Some of them prefer that to actual baths.
