The newest additions - bred this year, all 09 rings. Caesar's two - the skyblue opaline spangle and the albino hen, Earl and Latte's two grey opaline boys, Dumb and Kestral's Opaline grey spangle son and the dom pied orphan. Some have had tough moults. One of the new young ones I purhcased - putting this up to show Kaz what I am learning to appreciate. A heavily flecked dom pied - you can see how with selective breeding this could lead to a black face. Latte- Looking very trim - she will become a fatty soon - She can fly well, but she seems hesitant to take off, so Earl would always feed her. My boy who had the ear trouble - cleared up nicely, feathers growing back - thanks Liv The little Cec Gearing hen I bought has grown into this at 1 year old. She is going down to breed soon. I put soem fresh gum tree branches in the other day. Some like the leaves, but they wilt very quickly in the heat. Most love chewing the fresh branches, so it provides lots of entertainment in the cooler hours of the day. I also put in a big hanging water container with ice int he container so it would melt during the day and keep the water cool. I am sure the birds appreciated it. Lot of my little ones are growing up in there. Here's some pics. Grey on top perch and blue below I bred The blue spangle opaline boy again A rear shot of an opaline dommie pied girl I bred Two father and son pics of Dumb and his son, who is only 4 months old now or so. The son will fill out a lot more. More pics later, hopefully today. Link to comment

I just went to my local pet store and bought some new toys. My birds use the drinkers that guinea pigs use, with the ballbearing, and I always worry that the water will get overheated. My current ones are about a year old and craker with the sunshine, so I needed new ones. I bought two new drinkers. Nothing new there. I bought one of a new style, that you can fill from the top when it is either clipped on or you can take it away, leving a clip screwed on. I bought two little unsulators. They are like little cooler bags that go over the drinker. The cooler bags have two straps, each with a little clip that can clip to the wire. This means that the water should stay cool inside the cooler bag. I also bought a clip that attached and you can attach a 1.25 or even a 2 litre coke bottle to it. the drinking arm is attached to a screw on attachement designed to handle the weight of the water container. That makes it so much easier to change the water. Great if you are doing a medicinal run. I am going to attach a few different styles to the aviary and see which does the best job over summer and which ones the birds like more. I will take some pics, and if the findings are useful, I might even move all this info into a new topic. Link to comment

It is getting a bit crowded in there, I am going to have to do something about that. Here are some I cleaned the floor. You may not think this is a big thing, but it is massive. I removed a lot of sand. This grey boy I bred from two birds I got from deb. He is a double factor grey opaline cock. Check out his spots and mask. I think he is the best bird I have bred, then I see another one and I am undecided. A very cute dommie pied, bred from Kiwi (an Abi Hauder bird) and Twitch ( a Henry George bloodlines bird I bought off Fran McLaughlin) Note the messy floor in the last photo. Some mixed pics Link to comment
