Today they went and got their wings clipped, their nails trimmed. They where very good little budgies at the vet. They didn't even bite the vet :D ( last time they where at the vet, they bit her so hard and made her bleed). So l'm happy about that.

I have been talking to my budgies constantly on a daily basis, they will sit on their perch and just stare at me. They also cock their little heads to the side and it seems like when l talk to them they try to mimic what l say. It is just so darn cute :D

I figured that since they had quite a busy day today, l will start trying to tame them tomorrow. l will

be taking each one individually into the bathroom and spending alot of time with each one and try to start to get them use to my big hand with my secret weapon, MILLET SEED :D ........ l have been a bad mom, l have not given them any millet seeds for almost 2 weeks. l wanted them to be very tempted into taking it from me. l will see how it goes tomorrow.

Some picture's l took of them after getting their nails and wings trimmed. They are alittle bit grumpy about it.

They are gorgeous little budgies, best of luck with taming them.

NO MILLET SEED FOR 2 WEEKS?! :D:D

My bubs would cause a riot if they didn't get their weekly millet seed treat (and I found it very effective as a "secret weapon" too :hap: )

Great pics Birdluv ! 2 weeks without the secret weapon, might just prove to be the turning point in your training. I wish you luck & look forward to hearing how it goes.

I love the evil looks you get from your birds in the pictures. I would sleep with one eye open tonight !

I have been bad also - l hadn't given them millet from 2 weeks as well, but l was giving them their veggie mix so l'm sure they have forgiven me.

Looking forward to some great pictures l'm sure :P

Thanks everyone :)

well, l have started today to tame them. l thought that l would let them get use to my hands first, before taking them individually into a small room. l opened their cage so l could stick my hand in it with my secret weapon :budgiedance: millet seeds. l was so very shocked at what happened next..................... l couldn't believe my eyes................... my blue budgie Claire didn't even hesitated and went straight for the millet in my hand, she didn't sit on my hand, which l didn't expect her to but still she came so close to the tips of my fingers :)

Hobbes was more hesitant to try the millet seed so he only took a little bit, also when he tried to take some Claire would push him away. so tomorrow l'll take them into the bathroom individually, so Hobbes can at least have abit more millet seed since little miss piggy won't be there to push him away

l forgot to take some video of this session so l'll make sure to try to get some footage tomorrow.

Second day of taming.

l was going to take them individually into a smaller room to tame then one on one but l decided to wait a few more days before l do that, since l will be going away tomorrow on Thursday to my grandma's house until this Saturday. Then on Sunday or Monday l'll start to tame them one on one, but in the meantime l will continue to let them get use to my hand.

Today's session went really well again, Claire& Hobbes both went after the millet seeds like vulture's. you would think that they where starving :D

They are getting use to my hand, they don't fly away when l reach into their cage, they still don't go on my hand but l could tell that it will not be long until they will. l noticed today that Hobbes would look at my finger and stare at it, he was hesitant to sit on my hand but you could tell that he was thinking about it. so that is a start :fear

l manged to get a video and a few pictures;

first 2 pictures linked to the video were very oversized so I just put them as links, the same thing happened to me and I didn't know how to change it so I left the link to view the video instead :D).

I hate to say it but itsn't it amazing what a wing clip can do to the attitude it doesn't make them fearful it just makes them depend on you more and helps training go smoothly :). Wonderful job.

Today's session,

There training is going slow and steady at the moment. Since l was away for two days and they seem to have forgotten about my hand and they are abit nervous again. Yesterday and today l put my hand in there cage slowly, offering them millet seed from the palm of my hand. l leave my hand in their cage for 30 minute every few hours, while l have my hand in their cage l whistle and softly talk to them, l make sure that l avoid making eye contact with them.

They sit in the far corner and slowly make there way closer to my hand but still will not eat the millet.

l will keep on doing this every day until they are eating from my hand and they are not afraid of my hand. After that, l plan on training them to step-up. l will continue to make updates but probably not daily until l see some more progress. :fear

Let us know which Hospital you will be in Birdluv. We will all send cards & send Get Well Wishes after your surgery on your arm.

Having to leave your arm in the cage for 30 minutes at a time can be tedius painful work & many of us have had our arms fall right off when we've done this too. So we know what your going thru !

Hang in there ... it will get better. I'm sure being away a couple of days made them weary thats all.

Hello - I have been looking for this thread for ages as I am sure there was someone else trying to tame they're budgies just as I am at the moment. Sounds like its going really well. I loved the bit when you said

l noticed today that Hobbes would look at my finger and stare at it, he was hesitant to sit on my hand but you could tell that he was thinking about it.

Because I know exactly what you mean - I'm always saying the same thing about my birdie! I keep saying - look look she's "thinking" about doing whatever - while in the background my family roll their eyes.. we know different though! :)

(Laughing out loud), l will let you in on a secret...........since my bed is very close to their cage, :D l cheat :D, l prop a body pillow near their cage, and also they have a side door on their cage that is very low, so l open their side door and l put my arm through the opening and rest my arm on the pillow, so l can last quite a long time before getting sore :D

oh yes, my family thought l was going cray too repeating myself :dbb1: l'm so glad that l can talk about my feathered babies on here and l know that there are other bird lovers who understand each other, it is so nice.

good luck with taming your budgies it is a slow and steady process but if you keep doing it l know that you will have them tamed in no time :)
