Today i brought her inside and let her out of the cage and noticed that water is coming out of her bum every couple of minutes which we think it is a bit starnge as this has never happened before. She also went to have a bit of a flap and cannot fly she just flies low for a second then goes straight for the ground. we have been letting her inside every now and again for a flap while she has been outside and has been fine every other time. Hmmm The watery poop could be stress related.... How big is the cage she has been in??? the not flying well could be muscle weakness due to being in a small cage for an extended period of time.. She could also be over weight and too heavy to fly.... Check her breast bone and see if there is some "meat" there. if its sharp she might be unwell. if it's really padded she might need to go on a diet Link to comment

No unfortunatly we dont have any photo's. Her cage is huge so she definatly has enough room for a flap around. She is also a relativly small budgie, she doesnt look like she has changed size. It is really weird cause we brought her in last week and she was fine then, im a little bit worried and because of the public holiday the avians are closed We were maybe wondering she wouldnt have eggs would she?? Is she molting and lost any flight feathers? this can give them troubles flying for a short while. Budgies can fly perfectly fine when making an egg and her poops would be about 4 x the size of normal if she were about to lay. Is she fluffed and have that "sick-bird-look" Is she acting any differently (other than her lack of flight??) Link to comment

Should i maybe give the vet a call tomorrow just to double check? Thankyou for all your help as well Link to comment

They pass on diseases. Was the cage top accessible for the pigeon to be up on the cage and poop through the bars ? Being that the cage was outside, can mice have been through the cage ? Sounds like the bird has a gut infection which you can get from mice being through their food and water, or wildbirds pass on disease. I wouldnt let it anywhere near the new bird. Put the sick one in cage with a warm lamp nearby and some suplha meds in the water and watch it very closely. She is losing fluids very fast and the sulpha meds will stop that, but you do need a vet visit as she seems to have picked up a disease ...either from the pigeon or maybe mice. I knew wild bird poop can be bad, but unless the bird got in the aviary i couldn't see how any poop would get in the aviary to infect the budgies. How could I forgot that many aviarys have open wire roofs for wild birds to poop though - They can't do that to mine though (phew!!) Link to comment

Kaz is right. better to be safe then sorry Petshops will be closed today... but good bird dealers are normally open everyday. hope you find one near by. Guest lonebudgie Posted March 10, 2008 Share Posted March 10, 2008 (edited) My guess is if she has been an inside bird and now has been put outside , she may have been getting night frights and has not been resting properly , Now her condition has deterioated and she has contracted some sort of bug . If she is not eating properly and continues to have watery poops she will go down hill fast. Or she may be getting a cold breeze in the night this can cause watery poops , check that she has a place to get out of any breese that may blow up in the night , she may not be use to the cool nights being outside. How do i get sulpha meds if the pet shop is closed?? i am in melbourne does anyone know of any that are open past 5pm?? She seems okay nothing unusual. There were also actually 5 of them and about 2-3 inches long. and thanks zebra do i need to still go out and get some sulpha meds? cause i dont think there will be any pet shops still open which leaves me with no options.
