Because of renovations to the ferney, a few days ago I had to move Olives' quarantine cage down the end, where she is far away from the 'construction site'.

This has put her in a position where she can see (from a long distance) and hear clearly the aviary budgies.

On a good day Olive is a crazy little budgie, but now that she is avidly attempting to get to the other birds, she has flown (no pun intended) completely of her rocker and I really am afraid that she is going to seriously injury herself.

Yesterday I was out there talking to her, attempting to calm her down to no avail and she flew straight into her perch and fell to the floor of her cage, where she sat dazed for a minute or so (thankfully there was no more damage done).

I've also tried covering her up with a towel, but it hasn't made a bit of difference.

She only has a week left in quarantine and I don't really have any where else to put her as I seem to have quarantine budgies all over the place.

So do I leave her in her cage, where she could potentially hurt herself or introduce her to the aviary a week early?

Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated :) .

As all know i'm not strict on quarantine...... Which is highly frowned upon... But since she's been quarantined for a while already I personally would drop the last week of and add her to the aviary before she kills herself... i trust that your thought of adding her to the aviary means you feel she's fighting fit and healthy... so why not.... or else you may have a snapped neck on your hands soon :S

Yeah, that is why I'm truly considering putting her in a week early, because she has not shown one sign of illness and does appear to be "fighting fit".

On the other hand, I'd hate for me to put her in and something goes horribley wrong :) .

Good luck with making your decision! It's a tough one. Trust your instincts on this one i think. You don't want her to kill herself, but you don't want to put the rest of your flock at risk either..... :)

mmm, tough one there Bec... catch 22 I guess. Can you put her quarentine cage where another one is (so she can't see the avairy?)... Good Luck on your decision. xxx

Illnesses show up in under the quarantine period and sometimes outside the quarantine period. Your call re her health. Has she been wormed, and had a mite treatment ? Did she get a once over at the vets ? She is so close to the end of her quarantine period that if it has gone without incident I guess she would be okay. Stress brings out illness if it was there and she seems under stress now wanting to be where the others are.

Like I said...your choice.

Well, it's been four days since I have moved her and she is showing no signs of settling down.

So I'm going to put her in the aviary tomorrow morning ^_^ .

Worming - check

Mite treatment - check

Vet visit -check

And no signs of any illness so far.

I don't like the idea of breaking quarantine but I think this is best for her health and safety.

Like you said Kaz, stress causes illness and she is definitely stressing herself out right now.

I'll keep a very close watch on all the aviary birds and if anything out of the ordinary pops up, it will be straight off to the vets.

I hope all goes well. You might need to watch out for your other budgies, as she might terrorise them!!! ^_^ (Laughing out loud)... Good luck with the introductions and let us know how she goes.

I'm pleased to say that Olive is doing very well in her new home and has thankfully calmed down (well as calm as Olive can get anway :D ).

She has already claimed the rope toy as her own, has found a fast friend in Zayda and I think her and Kaos are having a running competition to see who can wreak the most havoc.

It makes me very happy to see her flying about mingling with the other budgies, she hated her quarantine cage with a passion.

That being said, I am still keeping a close watch on them all, but no signs of illness have reared their ugly heads yet. Touch wood.

:hap:

Jeez I can't believe I missed all this! *headdesk*

Tough call, but it is so great to hear that she's finally happy and flying around with other budgies :). She did spend a week at the vet's and she had the okay from us. I'd keep watching for a good two weeks, even if the quarantine period had been up. Good luck with it all - and post pictures :(Laughing out loud):

Good to hear Olive is being .... "OLIVE !"

I'm sure she will cause lots of trouble for you with all the other budgies. She will start a REVOLT ! She will be the leader of the pack & soon they will all make demands on you for things you could never ever agree to. CHAOS & ANARCHY WILL HAPPEN !

Prepare for a prison riot. It will happen sooner then you know ! Good Luck.

:) I wouldn't put it past her.

I can just imagine 200 years from now, a year 10 Australian History class sits in avid attention (meaning 50% are staring off into space praying for the bell to hurry up, 20% are asleep, 15% are passing notes, 10% are doodling pictures in their diaries and 5% are actually taking note of what is being said) as the teacher begins her/his lecture...

Began with OLIVE .... oh yes ... I can see it now. Wait. Maybe I can't see it ... I will be one of the 50 % staring off into space after I woke from my nap after sending notes of doodles to some other goofy like me.

Ya ... that I can see.

I'd be one of the 5% actually listening, I mean, who wouldn't want to learn about 'The Great Budgerigar Revolution of 2008, led by the Almighty Olive???
