Here is my new hens. Both sisters. Grey cinnamon spangle hens, one is opaline. Another sister from this clutch was YF grey opaline spangle. I bought these two from a show breeder at a budgie show on the weekend.

Very nice, the top one even looks a bit 'cock-ish' nice and long for a hen. I have a male here identical to the girls.

Any plans for them at the moment?

No, I have to think about it a little. Have a very nice YF grey boy :)

Very nice Kaz

Both in great condition and look like they are ready to breed. Good size birds for hens :) plenty of height above the eye, deep mask, plenty of spot. What year are they? and who are you going to pair to them? I have always tried to have the dominant variety the hen, than pair it to the best normal I have. I have breed better Dom Pieds and spangles that way. Having a pied cock or spangle cock never seems to produce as good unless they are a outstanding specimens or your into double factor.

At the moment I have to work with what I've got.

Lets us know how they go!

And don't forget the pics! :D

The first picture has the AMY WINEHOUSE Boufant Hairdooo going on there. Kinda like a bad hair day. But beautiful pictures. Such different colors then most I've ever seen.

Lucky you !

Spectacular hens Kaz, I love them both & their colours…lets hope they perform in the cabinets. Good luck.

Maybe the first one would be the best match for that Grey cock, as it’s “blow” [height from the cere to the top of the head] is greater, whereas the other hens head is very similar to the cock & being sisters they should be similar genetically, so to try for that extra height might be good. What do you think Kaz? Anyway that’s my thoughts on them.

You do not have to pay a fortune either for good showbirds. Many breeders sell their culls for reasonable prices. Any members who feel breeders are too expensive as compared to petshops and birddealers would do well to inquire of breeders for their breeding stock birds. These hens cost me $40 each which I think was very good for their quality. I have paid as little as $20 for show type birds from breeders also, but for a few dollars more you get nice birds ready to go.

I find breeders sell offs to be quite resonbly priced... I bought a show type 07 rung Yf1 violet hen for 15 dollars... nothing wrong with her at all... bu yet went to a pet shop and paid 25 for a simple recessive pied pet type... :S wonders will never cease :D

The spangle hen is in a breeder cage with a grey green spangle boy she came with. She went straight into the nestbox and began cleaning it out. :D
