Guest lonebudgie
Well its the new year and a new start to the breeding season for me . Im hopeing for a good season this year after having dramas in the last two years with my birds and also personal issues. So I decided to have a rethink for this season , Firstly I delayed the time when I usually start ie Nov-Dec , so I get rings on early . This year I decided to stop breeding in October and rest my birds through the moult , They have come through great . Although Im over cleaning all the breeding cages and avairies I was really excited to start pairing up . My breeding room , I have 18 cabinets with pairs in each. This year I decided to try something with the box , as you can see in the picture I stuck a peice of cardboard over the hole with a small hole , Reason being the hen has too chew her way into the box , hopefully allowing more time for mating to take place and also to maybe induse the full breeding condition. Well I turned the boxes early this morning after 3 days of the pairs being introduced to each other and 1 day of the hen in the cabinet alone. Here I thought it would take some time for the hens to chew in , but as in the picture above this hen is already getting into the box , about eight hens have already chewed into the box by this afternoon , I hope this is a good sign :budgiedance: Now the impaitent waiting starts . Fingers crossed. Link to comment https://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?/topic/17729-my-breeding-room/

They sound keen, I have been mating different pairs basically all year & the last few months lots of the new pairs don’t seem interested, some hens have never even entered the boxes. Don’t know why. Guest lonebudgie
Brilliant birdroom. You must be proud of that kind of setup. Now all the birds have to do is breed for you Yeah KAS im happy with my cabinets and your right its the breeding part thats the challenge ! Thanks everyone , I built these about 2 years ago , they are in banks of six and on wheels so I can move them out to clean , they are made from kitchen grade melamine so they are easy to clean and can handle being sprayed regulary. Each cabinet is 600mm x 600mm x 450mm deep and the box is the same depth as the cabinet , I like big boxes, my theroy is when the chicks are about four weeks they can move towards the entrance hole and be fed by the cock while the hen gets a bit of space to start laying again , the boxes have a removable base that a concave is cut into when the breeding season is finished I throw the bases out and spray the box , I then make new bases for the next breeding season . The building work for me isnt a problem ( being a builder ) Its getting these pesky budgies to breed is the hardest part. But they all seem to be happy even if there not breeding Link to comment https://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?/topic/17729-my-breeding-room/#findComment-204582

I wonder if anyone in the UK or Aust makes those to ship across the ocean? (Laughing out loud) They look great and I love the space, which should also help with stronger chicks when they fledge. The nestbox looks excellent and with the cardboard entrances is an interesting idea. Hopefully it all works better for you this year and I can't wait to see the results. Do you have the building plans for these that can be PM'ed? (Laughing out loud) They really are nice.
