Since it's been so hot over here we have now started getting cockroaches in the aviary! :yellowhead:

I'm assuming they don't harm budgies but does anybody have any solutions of how to get rid of them? :bluebudgie:

Well, found another one today... :). Tomorrow we are going to get some 'Cockroach traps': A box with bait and sticky material inside. I will put them in the bottom of the aviary in places where the birds cannot get to them. Can't wait until the weather cools down so they will stop coming.

So gross. We don't have them around home, but I did buy some for my lizards once. They were the grosses things ever. I've handled some creepy crawlies before, but these took the cake :) They were climbing up the side of the container etc and they smelt so bad when crunched... yuk yuk yuk yuk

solution guys...spray a ground cover repellent...! cochroaches look for shade when really hot,so limit access to the avairy by compying ground provention. think about it roaches are not are worst enemy...far from it....dont bother with baits, thats asking a Budgie to chew it,find their hole and douse it,if the aviary is next to the house check your vents(as its cool and danp there) if so use mothballs in the or around the vents,COCKIES dont like it..lemon juice is also good for black ants

A good product called COOPEX will kill them , you get it from pet shops and farm supplies , it comes in a powder and you mix it with water and spray around the avairy . Remove the water and seed containers and you can spray the entire avairy, birds and all , it leaves a residue on the surface and will kill any insects that land on it or cross it .

I spray every 2 months and it controlls all the creepy crawlies.
