We have sold my old house and can spend some money on the aviary amongst other things. I am about ready to begin. The idea is, we are dismantling the garden shed first and that section .....and the next section, which was my main flight, will become a new 4.4metre by 4.7 metre birdroom and height 2.1 metres at front and 2.7 metres at the gable. Once that is done, we will be building three main flights each 2.5 metres by 4 metres. The birdroom will have all new breeder cages I am in the process of making right now. There will be some delay as my catbite heals. I am making much larger breeding cages than normal, so the birds have room in them. The new birdroom will have lights, aircoolers, plumbed in sink and so on. Two of the main flights will be accessible from the side of the birdroom, the third flight access by going through one of the other flights. So, shortly we will be pulling down the garden shed and first aviary section for the concrete slab to be laid. I moved all birds into one main flight yesterday. I have found a man to do the new shed, and after that the roof and struts for the new flights. We aim for something easier to keep clean and mousefree zones. Photos as work goes on. Link to comment

Some measurement may change a little. The first section will be the birdroom at 4.4 metres deep by 4.7 metres wide and the height is good at 2.1 metres at the entry and a 2.7 metre gable. Once the birdroom is done the next section will be the three flights, 2 under the same gable roofline as the birdroom...so that section will be around 4-5 metres wide by 4 metres. The next flight will be 4 metres by about 2.5 metres. Heaps of space. I lose a fledgling aviary ( kind of ) but will have 3 flights, so youngster in one and not sure how I will divide the birds up between the other two flights. A kindie cage will be IN the birdroom also. Quarantine will happen much further away from the aviary complex. I will be working one handed, but tomorrow I may begin removing aviary wire from the first exisitng flight. Went to the doctors tonight and my cat bite IS infected and pretty nasty, so I have to go back each day until they are happier with the progress Edited August 10, 2007 by **KAZ** Link to comment

The shed with the lattice work on is GOING, and the aviary next door to it, also, is going. The space created by both those areas cleared will be the new birdroom 4.4 metres deep by 4.7 metres wide. The height will be the same as the other cream shed to the left of the existing shed 7 ft at the front and 9 ft at the gable ) . The cream coloured shed is part of my workshop...it is my glass storage room with the place my new glass kiln is going into as well. I think Ken is clearing the shed this weekend ready for disassembly. Link to comment

Just inside will be a sink plumbed in for water and dishwashing etc. I may put a little instant water heater on the wall...the kind they have for caravans...so I get hot water as well. I bought a new vacuum cleaner for the bird room...and BOY OH BOY !! Has that vacuum got SUCKING POWER. I had to watch out I didnt suck any budgies into it as I worked !! Link to comment

I have been doing leadlight for many years now. I had a business premises which I closed down a year or more ago as I dont need it now and I can work from home. Working from home is good, as I get time with my birds too. I have enough of a reputation for work to find me and my website gets me a lot of work too. I do the traditional kind with cutting glass, lead and solder...not the stick on modern version. http://www.artiglass.com.au/ Link to comment
