I have no nesting boxes in the aviary, but in the budgies sheer desperation to breed I have budgies trying to lay eggs everywhere right now. Some are digging tunnels into the earth floor, others are trying to create nests in little alcoves and on top of feeders. I am finding eggs everywhere !! ( Dont laugh Phoebe :P:P: )

I totally did not think of this one !!

A planter that has become empty since the plant was eaten...................:fear

Oh Dear :(

***I have removed the budgies and their eggs. They have been placed in a cage and when she lays her next egg IN A NESTING BOX she can have the other two eggs back again :glare:

(Laughing out loud) - that looks like a pretty obvious spot to me. All this egg laying, and their creativeness, must mean you are missing the obvious - (Laughing out loud)!!

You'll have recessives or split recessives if that hen isn't spilt herself

Digging in the earth floor - yup, mine did that to me too. They were all old birds I was going to let live out the rest of their alloted time in a nice aviary. They were NOT ready to retire!

Feeders - yup - I've had a couple of hens some years ago repeatedly dig ALL the seed out of the feeders and somehow squeeze under the divider and lay eggs INSIDE the feeder!

Sometimes you just gotta let them have their own way ... they seem to think they know better than us what they need / want

Cheers,

KathyW.

Determined aren't they ? :glare:

I cant leave them there as they are attracting other birds who also think its a good idea. If I put the parents in a breeding cabinet and wait till she lays the next egg in the actual nesting box I can then add the first two eggs to the nest. It has worked before. The plantpot has been removed. Meanwhile, others keep digging holes next to the aviary front section...and I keep filling in the holes.

Soon to change all and there will be no soil floors.

Kaz was listing the hen's parents.

Poor Kaz, but it seems lucky you had a spare cage still!

YES...they are the parents. I was listing the parents of the hen. I believe the cockbird is from recessive parents both sides.

I am amidst building new cages, but had to put this pair in an old breeder cage that had to have a quick fix up to accommodate them. If budgies could GRIN from ear to ear....I would describe this pair as doing exactly that sitting on their perch in the breeder cage now :glare:

The old saying where there’s a will there’s a way. That’s their survival mechanism…breed…Breed & BREED!!! If the condition are good…Breed.

Every day I am finding unclaimed eggs in the aviary. I pop them under nesting hens ( just in case they are okay ) so I guess there will be a few "odd" chicks coming out of nests....maybe

PS Norm.....conditions must be GOOD then :glare:

If the flower pot eggs hatch you will have to give them flower names. Things don't get that desperate at my place, as I'm still building breeding cabinets, but it will have to stop soon. Running out of room. Got about 30 pairs down.

We have a result from the flowerpot babies. There are five. Four visual violet normals, One cobalt or sky violet normal. Two fledged today, three still in the nest
