I hope thy come out as tame as hand fed. They seem to be likeing us. I think. Anyway their feathers are starting to show color and its so weird I got 1 blueish color baby and two with yellow wings and yellow spots on top of their heads(dominant pied?) I think? and the last looks like the blue but still to small. The parents are both opaline greens and the father has yellow wings. The reason I think it is weird is when I bought the pairs from the breeder he only had greens. Green pairs only and green babies only. He didn't have one blue out of a hundred and he said they weren't split. When we got the pairs from him we switched the pairing he had them in. I wanted both opalines together. Can I assume they will be opaline? And I guess he was wrong about the splits. Link to comment

You didn't mention if they are both opaline or not. If the dad is opaline or split to opaline you will get opaline hens. If the mom is an opaline then all the males will be split to opaline but won't be visual unless. If both are opalines you will get 100% opalines. Link to comment

So will the blues be opaline? Or too hard to tell untill fledgeing Oh I forgot yes both are opalines they both look a little pied as well. The father has yellow wings and is darker green and the mother is just opaline and lighter green. Two of the babies have yellow wings and a nice round yellow spot on top of their heads. That shouldn't happen. An opaline Male give one opaline gene to ALL his children, that makes the hens Opaline and the males if to a normal hen split. An opaline Hen give the gene to ALL of her sons, matched to an opaline cock makes all the males show opaline. It could be that you had a normal with opalescence on the wings making the bird look like an opaline. Link to comment

Maybe these ones also showed up with really bad, normal wing markings, who knows. What were the parents and babies like Norm? Link to comment

They are in an aviary, but there are no other Budgies with them. I also have a pair of Opaline Cinnamon Greens, that in their last batch of 7 have some that look like Cinnamon Normals, but the parents feather plucked them a little on their back where the triangle of colours is, so I can’t be sure until it grows back, but some of the wing patterns look more normal than Opaline.
