While carrying research for articles it is surprising what apparent trivia can be discovered. Apparently, some years ago a great deal of research was carried out on the palatability of eggs in which the hedgehog, rat, ferret and cat were used as tasters and a long series of unfinished papers were published by the Zoological Society of London. Later work was then recorded where the observations of a highly experienced tasting panels opinions on eggs of 212 species were collated.

 

The routine was to prepare a scramble, cooked over a steam bath with no further fat or condiment added. A palatability score was recorded against each species on a range of 10 - ideal, 9 - very good, 8 - good egg flavour, 7 - barely perceptible foreign flavour, 5 - unpleasant, 4 - increasingly off. 2 - repulsive and inedible. The highest score of 8.7 was that of the domestic fowl and the lowest was the Black ***, which scored just 2. As for the Budgerigar eggs, they were awarded 7.1 points; the same as domestic ducks and geese. It is therefore interesting to note that the Budgerigar egg is quite edible with its taste being described as "nutty" and "very sweet".

 

So, how many Budgerigar eggs does it take to make a decent omelette?

I know a boiled budgie egg stays clear (not white like the chickens egg)

I didn't taste it but just mashed it up in their carrots

Well I have been egg free for a bit now;Cheeky the tiel stopped at two and Dusty gave it up after the 5 eggs didn't hatch. Coco the budgie has not laid an egg after going back to rescue almost a month ago and Star the budgie (who laid 365 days a year) has not laid one egg after going back to rescue a year ago. In fact the Avian Rescue owner quite fancies Star and is unwilling to let her be adopted so she has a home for life. Phoebe the lovebird (who laid two clutches last year) decided this wasn't the thing she wanted to do this year so I am EGG FREE!!!!!!!! I am extremely happy to report that ALL the egg layers in my household have been egg free for the last ?3 weeks so I won't be needing omelet recipes.

I didn't time it sorry just boiled it to death (maybe 2 mins) it was one of Ringo's clear eggs that she kept laying.

Would you add some cheese or onions & green or red peppers to spice it up ? Would you eat the omelet with some ketchup ? or HP Sauce ?

No need to bit for it. I built my God daughter a Doll's house for her christening last year (and it's pretty damn good if I don't say so myself (Laughing out loud) )... and in the kitchen on the stove is the 'exact' same fry pan! I'll willing to loan it from her dolls for a small fee and some fried eggs on toast (those small toasts from the supermaket... used for dip etc... would be perfect)
